Session Type: Working Group Roundtable
This working group roundtable will bring together, for the first time, organizers of the opt-out movement and teacher educators from both across the country and across the fields of early childhood education, elementary education, and secondary education in order to engage interdisciplinary perspectives on the corporatization of teacher preparation. The roundtable will provide a forum for participants to compare current research in their respective fields and share viewpoints from multiple perspectives on this phenomenon. Using a critical consciousness lens and drawing from standpoint theory, participants will actively collaborate in this session to determine promising research and resistance directions for equity-oriented teacher educators seeking to engage in this work. Emphasis will be placed on advocating for the interests of marginalized students.
