I’ve read practically every book that Wendy S. Marcus has written, and this one is stunning. There’s so much emotion that is portrayed within the pages that I felt like I was laughing and crying along with the characters. Comical at times, but still packed with intensity as truths are revealed during some of the most awkward and honest moments. Krissy is a hard-working nurse, but a lot of people still imagine her as the wild party-girl of her teenage years. In reality, though, Krissy has matured into a respectable beautiful woman. And, it’s with that respect that she promises her best friend Jarrod something that is sure to shock, but yet bring together friends and family members. Spencer was best friends with Jarrod, and he blames Krissy for him having joined the Army. But, what he doesn’t know is what Krissy promised Jarrod. Everything will come to light, however, when letters are distributed to each important person in Jarrod’s life. As Krissy and Spencer spend more time together, they find themselves rekindling that friendship that they shared in the past. Will it develop into something more as Spencer sees just how capable and caring Krissy is with the huge undertaking that now is bestowed on her?

This is so not your typical military romance. This one will floor you and leave you speechless. The storyline is one that I’ve never read before, and it’s written with compassion and heart. There’s a definite chemistry between Krissy and Spencer as they finally connect on a more romantic level. And, the passion between them is sensual and touching. I couldn’t help but enjoy the witty banter between the two also. The love/hate relationship that they shared was endearing. It was a beautiful story with a great cast of characters as feelings were shared during a most tenderhearted step towards finding comfort and fulfillment. This is surely one that you’re not going to want to miss...

“You are what my life’s been missing. You’re fun and passionate, a wonderful mother, and thank God, kind and forgiving. You’re laid back, you go with the flow and I need that in my life.” ~ Spencer (Chap. 16)

“You’re confident and sexy, dependable and smart, and you’re going to make a wonderful father for J.J.” ~ Krissy (Chap. 16)

This is one of those magical stories that will stay with me for a long time make sure you have your tissues ready because you are going to need them sigh.

Krissy Peniglatt is a hard working nurse but most people still see her as the irresponsible and laid back young girl of her youth but when the time comes to keep the promise that she made to her very best friend Jarrod years before Krissy is determined to do this on her own and show people that she is and adult and capable of being a single Mum. Krissy is a beautiful fun loving and caring person and people need to look inside to see her properly.

Spencer Penn was also the best friend of Jarrod they never kept any secrets from each other during school and when Jarrod joins up in the army for what Spencer says is the wrong reasons and then does not come home Spencer is even more angry with Krissy you see these three were friends in school but they were young and emotions were hard to get through and there is a lot of water under the bridge that needs to be sorted, so Krissy and Spencer's first reunion does not go well.

Truly this is a beautiful story MS Marcus has bought the characters to life on the pages she has made me smile with the dialogue between Spencer and Krissy and made me cry as well the emotions that are flying off the pages will keep you turning them fast, what an amazing journey this one is, one that I highly recommend. To see love blossom with family and friends to help and the epilogue is fabulous I loved having Kira and Derrick there. Thank you MS Marcus for a fabulous story that will be read many times over I loved both stories in this series.

LOVED it!! This is a powerfully emotional story that had my attention from the very first page! As an 18 year old Krissy Peniglatt made a promise to Jared, her best friend, that if anything happened to him she would do the ultimate favor for him. Now 26 Krissy is ready to settle down and the time has come to keep that promise. The favor - have his child. Make his parents grandparents. And the only bad part...do it with Spencer Penn as the child's godfather. The problem with that - Spencer Penn hates her and blames her for Jared joining the Marines and getting killed in action. The thing is, Jared may have been smarter than either of these two. The more time they spend together, the more drawn to each other they are. Will they be able to put the past behind them and move forward??? You definitely want to grab a copy of this book and find out. I highly recommend it.

This is the second time I've cried reading a book by Wendy S. Marcus. She has the ability to write nuanced and contradictory characters who pull you into their story. I wasn't inclined to like Krissy after encountering her in her sister Kira's story, The Doctor She Always Dreamed Of. Krissy came off as selfish, flighty, and irresponsible because she didn't help carry the burden of taking care of her mother who suffers from mental health issues and needs round the clock care. Her reasons: Kira seemed to have a handle on it and their mom didn't recognize her anyway. I could never have done what Krissy did knowing my mother and sister were struggling. In this sense, Krissy can be very selfish.

Krissy's decision to have her dead best friend's child was a monumental and incredibly kind decision far beyond the normal realm of friendship. Her friend was an only child who was joining the military and had asked Krissy to have his baby via IVF if he died in service. Many years after his death and when she had done enough living and had saved enough money, Krissy fulfilled her promise to her friend. In this way, Krissy was completely unselfish and giving by ensuring her friend would live on in his child.

As she nears the birth of her child, she shares a letter from the dead bf to Spencer, the third musketeer in their trio who she's been estranged from since high school. Spencer has been tasked with being godfather to the baby which is a responsibility he takes seriously. Spencer is not Krissy's biggest fan because he blames her for the friend's death and also judged her for being a thoughtless, selfish teenager (which she 100% was). I don't blame her for not having deeper feelings for her friend. I do think her typical self-absorption enabled her to not see that her friend liked her.

Spencer and Krissy develop a new relationship as adults and Krissy does prove over time that she has matured and changed. Her open communication with Spencer, Kira, and her baby's grandparents prove that she came into her own as an adult and can have difficult and honest conversations. I shed a tear or two during the epilogue. Great book. Recommend.

What an amazing story! The Nurse's Newborn Gift by Wendy S Marcus was unlike any other story I have ever read. The plot was unique and fantastic. Marcus takes us on an interesting journey with a new mother giving the gift of life to people that have felt so much pain and loss. In the process a romance is explored that started many years ago but was never given the chance to fully play out. It's a refreshing read that is different from so many typical romance books and I found myself turning pages as fast as I could.

We met Krissy as sister to Kira in The Doctor She Always Dreamed Of but we didn't get to see her true self - just who she was through Kira. In this story we meet a completely different side to Krissy. We also meet Spencer in and boy did I dislike him at first. He was mean and judgmental and I didn't have a lot of patience for him. He slowly started to grow on me, however; as I saw how much he cared for Krissy and learned why his emotions got the best of him. I could even relate at times.

Marcus does an amazing job of engaging the reader through the characters' emotions. I felt Krissy's emotions - her fear at the thought of giving birth; the defeat and sadness when others didn't believe in her; the hope when she found true love; and the pure joy of being a new mom. The intimate scenes are so well done with the right amount of show and tell that the reader feels like they are living it out with them.

The Nurse's Newborn Gift is a heart warming, sexy, emotional romance that left me sighing and wanting more. The ending and epilogue are absolutely a perfect. I thoroughly enjoyed this story and I highly recommend you give it a read. You will love it.

Such a touching story! With her powerful voice, Wendy S. Marcus shared with us a journey to finding happiness again after a horrible heartbreak. There's deep sadness, unbelievable joy and a sexy hot connection to take our breath away as we share Krissy's journey. Really couldn't put this book down!

As a young adult, Krissy Peniglatt promised her best friend that if he didn't make it back from his Army stint overseas, that she would make sure his legacy continued on by having his baby via IVF. When the unthinkable happened and Jarrod didn't make it home, Krissy worked hard to get herself established in a stable career and make sure she was mature enough to handle being a single mother, and then she kept her promise to Jarrod.

Jarrod left instructions that he wanted his other best friend, Spencer Penn, to be his baby's godfather. Once upon a time they were all great friends, until Spencer took a stance of disliking Krissy and drifting away. Now when she comes to his door with a letter from his old friend, he can't turn her away no matter how he feels. As he sets out to honor Jarrod's wishes and help her through the end of her pregnancy, will he be able to convince her that he really doesn't dislike the new her that she's become ... and in reality, would love to be her baby daddy??

Loved It!!

This was a great story! Krissy was a funny, strong and passionate woman who is determined to fulfill the promise she made her best friend, Jared, if he were to die in combat. This promise is to carry on his legacy and give his parents a grandchild and she is determined to raise this child all alone. In walks Spenser, future godfather, and decides he is going to help her no matter what she says. Needless to say he's determined! Hahaha!! Now, these two have a history along with Jared, they were all best friends in high until Krissy and Spencer had a falling out.

The banter between these two is funny and witty and sometimes very heart felt. I love the interchange between them and how Krissy don't take no bull when it comes to giving her child the best life she can.

This story was fun, sexy and full of forgiveness and hope for a beautiful future!

Highly recommended!

I devoured this book all in one day. I love this author's writing style. It's fun, flirty and sexy but she also throws in emotion that brings a tear to your eye. This book had quite a few touching moments with the baby and lost friends and renewing old friendships. The epilogue really got to me and I admit needing a tissue. Read The Doctor She Always Wanted first and then this one. Highly recommend both!

Krissy Peniglatt made a promise to her best friend Jarrod the day he enlisted, never really expecting to have to follow through with it, because he was going to come home. But, he didn't. Now she finds herself on the tail end of her pregnancy, armed with a huge secret that she must relay to friends and family. Which takes her to the doorstep of her sworn enemy from high school, and Jarrod's best friend Spencer.

She knows seeing Spencer again is going to be tough, especially once she tells him the secret she has been keeping. They have history, a passionate one at that, and being in the vicinity of him again is bound to bring up old feelings, and long buried attraction. But nothing could have prepared her for what she finds waiting for her...

From beginning to end The Nurses's Newborn Gift held me captive, it's beautifully penned words reeked havoc on my heart and left my emotions raw. This moving story had me near tears one moment and swooning like a fool the next, it was such a an unique, passionate, and powerful tale. The characters had undeniable chemistry, and came with an realistic quality that made it easy to connect to them, they honestly felt like family. This is by far my favorite story from this author to date, her touching words squeezed my heart and brought me an overwhelming sense of joy! Highly recommend this one, it's a heartfelt second chance romance story that is certain to leave your happy and your toes curled!

The heroine made a promise to her best friend from her teen years to carry his baby if he didn’t come back from deployment. After traveling the world she is now ready to settle down and fulfill the promise. The only fly in the ointment is his best mate Spencer who doesn’t approve. It’s really lovely watching these two come together for their best friend’s baby.

Lordy. The Nurse’s Newborn Gift needs to come with a pack of tissues and a warning that tears will flow. From the blurb, I knew going in this was going to be an emotional story, I just wasn't expecting it to bring on the waterworks so many times or with such intensity.

I often wonder about book titles. Sometimes they really don't fit the book. After reading this story, I completely understand the title and what it truly means.

The Nurse’s Newborn Gift started years ago, when a nineteen-year-old Krissy Peniglatt promised her best friend, Jarrod that if he didn’t make it back from his tour of duty in the Middle East she would have his child. Krissy made the promise never believing Jarrod would be killed in action only two short years later. It has taken Krissy some time to get her life together and feel she’s ready to tackle motherhood on her own. She just didn’t expect Jarrod to request his other best friend, Spencer be the God-father.

Spencer Penn has always been the smart, safe guy. He’s a thinker and likes to always have his ducks in a row. Once friends with Krissy, he now blames her for the death of his best friend. The last thing Spencer ever expected was to have Krissy show up out of the blue, telling him she’s carrying Jarrod’s baby.

The Nurse’s Newborn Gift takes readers on a wonderful, bittersweet, heartwarming, heart-wrenching journey of forgiveness, friendship, and love. Wendy S. Marcus is one of my favorite authors, but this book with all of its tenderness and heart blows the rest of her books away. I loved watching Spencer step up and be a father to his best friend’s baby, truly getting into the role of expectant/new father. Krissy shows real courage choosing to fulfill a promise and attempting to take on motherhood single- handedly. Just when you think Wendy couldn’t possibly put any more emotion into the book, think again.

While I haven't read all of Wendy's books, the ones I have read have been perfect. If you haven't read her before, you are truly missing out.

Sorry to disagree with all the five star reviews, but where they thought the story line unique, I found the set-up contrived.

Krissy and adored only child Jarrod were best friends from childhood. When he joined the army at 19, he begged her to have his child via artificial insemination, in order to give his parents a grandchild, should he die during military service. Two years later, the unthinkable happens.

After five years travelling, partying and saving, and her nursing career established, Krissy feels mature enough to embark on single parenthood.

Trouble is, Jarrod has left a letter to his other best friend, Spencer, asking him to be the baby's godfather. Krissy had a teenage crush on Spencer but, since he rejected her when she was about 15, they've loathed each other and not seen each other in years. She was a self-absorbed teen (not without reason: there was an awful lot going on in her life) and didn't realise that Jarrod was in love with her. Spencer blames Krissy for Jarrod's enlistment and death. Unknown to her, he enlisted to impress her.

In the prequel 'The Doctor She Always Dreamed Of' we only saw Krissy through her older sister Kira's eyes. She appeared flighty and irresponsible but from Krissy's POV, Kira always took control of situations and made Krissy feel redundant. Since her father left the family when she was ten, she's tried not to be a burden and to be independent.

Once past the initial set-up, the story became character-driven and I liked it much better. Krissy and Spencer's clashes are largely due to their personality differences and the way people have perceived her in the past. He researches and plans everything, she's spontaneous but brave. Krissy has some difficult conversations with Spencer and Kira and shows she's grown up.

There are some amusing moments, such as the Lamaze class, and witty dialogue. There's also a sizzling fellatio scene. Ms Marcus also doesn't gloss over the less pleasant aspects of early motherhood, such as cracked nipples and stinky nappies.

Now if book 1 was the heart melter, book 2 is the heart breaker!
You first meet Krissy Peniglatt in book 1, as the younger sister of Kira. And to be honest, I wondered how the author was going to redeem this character, who had seemingly, selfishly abandoned her sister and sick mother. Kira again believes her sister is being selfish by deciding to have a baby. Yet redeem her the author absolutely did. Krissy is fulfilling a promise to her best friend by agreeing to have IVF. Another promise is to contact Spencer Penn, the baby's future godfather.
Spencer isn't too happy about meeting up with Krissy again. Even less so when she drops a bombshell on him. A letter from the friend he lost, likely because of Krissy, ties them both together in an unexpected way. The tension between them is still there, as well as his resentment.
No one seems to trust that Krissy can do this alone - including Krissy herself. For most of her life she's tried not to be a burden and she doesn't intend to be one now. Though she does need to face up to some truths in order to move on. And so does Spencer. This couple has serious trust issues.
The backstory to this book is so emotional. And the letters that Krissy hands out are weep inducing. But through it all is the simmering romance between Krissy and Spencer, which I loved, and the conflict that's keeping them apart. Boy does Wendy S. Marcus do emotional well. Stunning!

Krissy Peniglatt single woman, nurse, always out having fun and best friend to Jarrod Sadler. What Krissy doesn't know that Jarrod always saw Krissy as his so much more but she always she him as her best friend and confidant. When he asks her something that could change the course of her life she never thought it would happen so she never hesitated to say yes.
Spencer Penn also best friend of Jarrod never thought he would have to face Krissy again. After there tumultuous past he moved on to a life that he thought was great until one day Krissy shows up and turns his life into a tailspin.
What Krissy &. Spencer never knew is that Jarrod always thought if something happened to him that the two of them would be great together and he did everything he could to make that happen. Their relationship has many ups and downs and bumps along the way but if the two of them could get past it all they could have that HEA they both deserved and one Jarrod knew could happen.

I absolutely loved this story!!! As soon as I read the Prologue I was in tears. You will definitely need a box of tissues with this book. This is a beautiful written story of Krissy's promise to her best friend Jarrod if something was to happened to him. Wendy has done it again with writing such an emotional tear jersey book. Krissy and Spencer are perfect for each other . It takes an amazing man to raise another man's child. I highly recommend reading this wonderful heartfelt book. I look forward to reading more books from Wendy S. Marcus.
