Session Type: Symposium
This symposium focuses on how digital media can shape opportunities for learning in homes and among families. Five papers are included, each investigating media use among young children and their adult caregivers from a different vantage point. These papers offer insight into families’ current practices around media use; how media can be—and comes to be—used in ways that support different kinds of learning for children; and supports to help parents promote productive use of media at home. In addition to concrete instantiations of practice, the papers in this symposium contribute key principles for developing, curating, sequencing, and engaging with media that deepen our understanding of how digital media can foster children’s learning.
