Jamestown and the surrounding communities were greatly shocked early Tuesday morning, July 22, when news spread that Mr. Willis S. Coffey of this city, had been killed instantly when hit by an automobile, driven by Mr. Paul Young of Columbia. The accident occurred on North Main Street near the residence of Mr. L.P. Long.
Mr. Coffey was about 64 years of age and held in high esteem by his neighbors and many friends throughout this section. He was a member of the local Methodist Church and the Jamestown Lodge of Odd Fellows.
The funeral, which was largely attended was held in the Methodist Church here Wednesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. J. W. Rayburn of Greensburg, Ky, assisted by E. Lyle Harvey, with burial following in the city cemetery.
Mr. Coffey is survived by his wife and ten children, six sons and four daughters, Orvin, Olen, Lindsey, Liston, Curt and Jack Coffey, and Mrs. Aubrey Eastham, Mrs. Omri Eastham, Mrs. Hobart P. Landon and Mrs. K.S. Lester.
All the children were here for the funeral except Lindsey and Curt who are serving in the U.S. Army.
The sympathy of the entire community goes out to the bereaved family.
