Flight of the Conchords Prep New Material for Summer Tour
Flight of the Conchords have plotted a North American trek, “Flight of the Conchords Sing Flight of the Conchords Tour,” which kicks off June 11th in Cleveland and runs through late July. The New Zealand comedic folk duo of Jemaine Clement and Bret McKenzie will debut new material during the amphitheater and concert hall shows – their first dates since co-headlining 2014’s Oddball Comedy & Curiosity Tour.
The 28-date jaunt – which finds the band partnered with charity organization Global Citizen – includes a July 22nd headlining performance at the Newport Folk Festival and a July 24th show at New York’s Central Park Summerstage. Ticket details are available at the band’s website. “I’m thrilled to get back on the road with over half of the original band,” McKenzie joked in a statement.
Flight of the Conchords formed in 1998, but earned their widest commercial and critical acclaim with a titular HBO series that ran from 2007 and 2009. The duo performed sporadically after that point and have recently mentioned plans to write a feature film. Last year, Clement teased a potential 2015 tour and the possibility of new material: “I really don’t like the studio part of music,” he told Billboard. “I more enjoy playing live and letting others take care of the recording.”
The band’s most recent LP is 2009’s I Told You I Was Freaky.
