The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports an outbreak of gastrointestinal disease on Holland America Line’s Veendam.

57, or nearly four percent of the vessel’s 1,429 passengers plus 10 crewmembers have reported ill with vomiting and diarrhea. The cause of the outbreak is yet to be confirmed, but the vessel’s crew are following their response plan and consulting with CDC on sanitation procedures when the vessel reaches San Diego on December 27.

The outbreak is the 12th recorded this year by the CDC. Veendam last suffered an outbreak of disease in February 2014 when 114 passengers and 10 crew members became ill.
