Couple who intimidated other bikers on Penang Bridge fined RM2,500 each


GEORGE TOWN: A married couple have been fined RM2,500 each by a Magistrate's Court here for intimidating other motorcyclists on the Penang Bridge.

Muhamad Hafiz Ong Abdullah, 50, and Ong Ser Ying, 37, both pleaded guilty before Magistrate Nurul Rasyidah Mohd Akit after the charge was read to them by a court interpreter on Friday (Feb 9).

Nurul Rasyidah also ordered for the duo to be jailed six months if they failed to pay the fine.

They were charged with criminally intimidating two men at KM2.8 of the Penang Bridge from George Town to Prai at about 5pm on Feb 5.

The charge under Section 506 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the same code.

If convicted, the offence carries up to two years in jail or a fine, or both.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nor Shakila Dahari prosecuted the case while both accused were not represented.

During the proceedings, both accused nodded in understanding after the interpreter read out the charges against them, and the woman was heard apologising repeatedly for her wrongdoing.

Meanwhile, Muhamad Hafiz was also charged in a separate court for a traffic offence under Section 42 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous riding.

In a viral video, the duo can be seen riding dangerously and also attempting to kick other motorcyclists who overtook them on Penang Bridge.

Checks found the couple had three past criminal cases involving criminal intimidation in 2021 and 2023 but are not on the wanted list.
