<b>We are so excited to announce the hosts for the IIT Boeing Scholars Academy's first-ever Job Shadow Day, taking place on <u>Monday, February 20, from 10am-2pm</u>! We've got a really amazing group for you to choose from!</b>

HOW TO SIGN UP: <b>By 11pm on Monday, February 13, (one week before the event)</b> fill out the form below. We will let you know by mid-week where you will be headed on Monday, February 20! We will be providing lunch on-site for Scholars and hosts as part of the event.

<b>Boeing Company (max: 30 students)</b>

<b>Description:</b> The Boeing Company is an aerospace, defense, and engineering company. We manufacture airplanes, defense aircraft, satellites, space shuttles, and a host of other aerospace items. This job shadow day will give the students an opportunity to learn about our company, the types of professionals that work for our company, and the importance of STEM careers.

<b>Description:</b> Students can expect to spend time digging into the world of college admissions and marketing, including discussion of school identity and brand management. We will research college admission requirements and campus visit information, as well as create a high school profile communications/marketing piece. Students will serve as a thought partner in the development of the profile document, so they should come prepared to share their ideas about what high schools and colleges need to know about each other!
<b>Notes for students:</b> Students should dress business casual. If possible, students should bring a copy of their own high school's profile.

<b>Description:</b> We prepare a variety of narrative and statistical lists, and records related to student performance, enrollment, demographic characteristics, and growth. As a charter school organization, we operate the highest academic performing K-12 continuum of schools in the districts we serve, providing graduates with the academic and psychosocial skills required to be successful in a competitive 4-year college or university. Students will see how a data analyst benefits an organization by providing the organization with the information it needs to achieve its goals. For example, students will see the database of state testing scores (of course, there will be no identifiable information attached to these scores, to maintain confidentiality). In addition, they will see how we use statistical software to help analyze such data. Furthermore, students will see what it is like to interact with a variety of professionals in the charter school organization, such as Chief Academic Officer, Executive Director, Director of External Affairs, Chief Operating Officer, etc.

<b>Institute for Food Safety and Health, IIT's Moffett Campus (max: 5 students)</b>

<b>Description:</b> The Institute for Food Safety and Health (IFSH) at IIT is a one-of-a-kind applied food research institute that provides stakeholders the opportunity to develop and exchange knowledge, experience, and expertise to address key issues in food safety, food defense, and nutrition. Powered by a singular combination of in-depth expertise and research capabilities, IFSH’s collaborative research teaches students to define and design innovative and practical approaches to solving real-world challenges in food industry operations. Dr. Jason Wan will give the students an overview of  the Institute for Food Safety and Health, IIT. He will cover the importance and types of research that is done at IFSH. Dr. Wan will also give an overview of the positions that employees hold at IFSH (which includes many Food Scientists, Microbiologists, Food Engineers, Chemists, etc.). He will also discuss our Food Safety and Technology and Food Process Engineering Degree programs that are offered at IFSH, IIT. The students will also be given a tour and lunch will be provided.
<b>Notes for students:</b> Casual attire is fine, but NO skirts, shorts, or open-toed shoes are allowed.


<b>kCura Corporation (max: 10 students)</b>

<b>Description:</b> Students will have the opportunity to shadow IT and software development professionals. They will get to see IT customer service and application help and sit in on software engineering planning meetings. It also may be possible to place students in other areas of the business (sales, marketing, finance, etc.) if there is interest.
<b>Notes for students:</b> kCura's workplace is casual -- students should feel free to wear clothes they would wear to school. If they want to familiarize themselves with our work, they can visit www.kcura.com to learn about our business, or www.edrm.net to learn about the e-discovery industry. They do not need to bring or prepare anything, but we will be interested in learning about their interests, past experiences, career goals, etc.

<b>Description:</b> Little Village Environmental Justice Organization (LVEJO), also known as La Organización de Justicia Ambiental de La Villita, is a collective of community members based in Little Village striving for a clean and just environment. We seek to empower our local and global communities through environmental organizing and youth programming for cleaner air, open space, and a sustainable future. With this job shadow opportunity, students will experience a brief orientation to the organization and the issues it addresses, and then go on a walking tour of the neighborhood to sites where it works. Students will also have the opportunity to assist on a civic engagement project (format TBA).

<b>Description:</b> Narrative Science is a startup company with software that automatically writes news stories from data. Our editors tell the program what is important in the data and how to talk about it, and the computer does the rest. This year, our software has written over 400,000 sports, finance, and real estate stories.

<b>Transco Products Inc. (max: 3 students)</b>

<b>Description:</b> Transco Products Inc. (TPI) designs, manufactures, and installs thermal insulation for nuclear power plants in the United States and throughout the world. The students will meet with project managers, 3D computer designers, and project engineers to hear what each individual does on a daily basis. Students will get to see and touch samples of the product we build, as well as learn about how a project gets started and finished and the importance of engineering within the process.
<b>Notes for students:</b> Students should dress business casual, so please wear a button-down shirt and slacks or a skirt. No jeans, hats, tennis shoes, or cargo pants. Students should bring paper to take notes and a camera if they'd like to take pictures.


<b>University of Chicago (max: 13 students)</b>

<b>Description:</b> Students will tour science facilities at the University of Chicago and discuss opportunities to get involved as high school students and undergraduates performing research! Students will spend approximately 2 hours shadowing a graduate student or post-doctoral scholar in one of several labs in chemistry, biology, or geophysics (2-3 students per lab). Lunch will be provided at a campus location.
<b>Notes for students:</b>We are very casual. Anything you might wear to school will be appropriate for our lab. Bring questions! <i>Students who are planning to apply for a summer research position with this group (2 paid positions available) are encouraged to select this option.</i>
