Detroit council President Monica Conyers gets TV show

DETROIT -- Embattled Detroit City Council President Monica Conyers is getting her own half-hour TV show.

The show "Ask the Councilwoman With Monica Conyers" debuts on WHPR-TV and will run Tuesday from 3:30 to 4 p.m.

The wife of U.S. Rep. John Conyers, D-Detroit, will interview guests, give commentaries and take calls.

Monica Conyers has been the source of frequent controversy, most recently when her heated verbal exchange Thursday with Councilwoman Sheila Cockrel led Councilman Kwame Kenyatta to propose Conyers be censured.

Her spokeswoman Denise Tolliver tells The Detroit News Conyers isn't out to "slam anybody."

WHPR program director Henry Tyler says Detroit City Councilwoman JoAnn Watson already has air time on the station.
