Two-Headed or Twin Hoggy(ies) Pipping Now

The breeder is very good at posting regularly- I'm sure she'll post to the forum as soon as more is revealed! I'd be having heart failure.

She gave me permission to copy the pic here: (And so far no more news except the #1 egg hatchling came out and plowed through everything and buried the other eggs, so now the twin egg is separated from the rest of the clutch.)

This is so funny- the #1 hatchling buried the other eggs, escaped from the container, escaped from the incubator! through a slit wires go through, and hid under a potted plant. He's fine, though. 5g, 7.89".

I wish the twins would hurry up...#1 pipped yesterday afternoon, and was out this afternoon.

Pic of #1- (the egg containing the twins or two-headed snake is #2.)

Waaaay cool. And that hatchling that's out is gorgeous and healthy looking. Thanks for posting these photos, Nanci. :)

No more news yet. Just the two noses poking out. She's showing great restraint by not trying to get a better look.

I believe the egg could also contain two separate twins, which would typically be smaller than normal.

Two-headed snakes generally have a pretty grim outlook, although a few survive, sometimes for years.

I think I'd be hoping for separate twins.

Oh, and thanks to Tri-colors' remarkable reproduciton rates, the female has already laid her second clutch. They will go up to five clutches in a season, and the only way to make them stop is stop feeding the female till she for sure stops laying.

Wow that's interesting. From the way the noses are positioned, it looks to me like seperate twins has a better chance, unless the conjoined are joined in a very odd place.

I kind of like the hognose snakes. The tricolor are pretty, but I've heard it's best to start of with Westerns if you're a clueless lunker like me. :grin01: Keep us posted... this is a neat topic!!

Here they are now- she's thinking it looks like twins:

I think Tri-Colors would be way easier than Westerns- I can't imagine a Tri going on a hunger strike...They are eating machines!

Cool thread... how did I miss it :p

I MUCH prefer tri colours over westerns feeding wise - But Westerns have sooo much more personality :grin01:

So, the smaller one is 3g and 6.03 inches. The bigger one is 3g and 6.08 inches. Look how identical they are, right down to the zigzag!
