For those who need an introduction, Anubis, meet board. Board, meet Anubis :lol.

And this is his Arm Device, a combination of a mean weapon and a device used to to activate the transport rings.

This one :

On to the 'build'.

I say build, but I would classify this project more as a jigsaw puzzle :wacko

The first and most important component, I got a set of one of Karl's (kwalsh0000) phenomenal castings.

ahd0-975x432.jpg

And one of these to complement that part.

ahd0a.jpg

For the claws, I used sheets of aluminium.

I tried this method first.

ahd1-907x614.jpg

But I found they were near impossible to bend into shape with 2 halves :wacko

So I went this way.

ahd2-904x611.jpg

And added cut up strips of a brass rod to place on top. Filed at the edges and the top.

ahd3-896x607.jpg

Once finished, I sanded them to give them the rough and used look.

The rings.

Ring bases, brass settings, and some cool cabochons.

The side pieces of the settings were later chopped off and the settings painted.

ahd5-882x597.jpg

Last component for the rings was some chain to attach them to the claws.

ahd5a-882x597.jpg

Next step was to figure out how to attach the two parts of the gauntlet together and keep them steady.

An old VHS tape cover cut up into strips and secured with superglue did the trick.

ahd6-876x593.jpg

For the chainmail, I used one of these.

The bottom part, black elastic, and the embedded metal fasteners were removed.

ahd8-858x649.jpg

One of these to put everything on.

ahd7-871x589.jpg

The glove went onto the wooden hand .... and it was too short :lol

No worries. Anubis had a mitten, not a glove, so I used the chopped off fingers of the glove itself to extend the bottom part :lol

ahd9-858x480.jpg

The wooden hand itself was also way too short to accommodate the gauntlet.

Again, no worries.

Waste not want not as I always say, and I stuck an empty can onto the bottom of the wooden hand :lol

ahd10-919x555.jpg

Which I covered with a piece of black cloth. That would also serve to cover the bottom of the whole forearm.

ahd11-918x622.jpg

I used the lid of a jar of coffee, with the centre cut out, to 'seal' the whole bottom part together.

ahd12-912x618.jpg

Last, and most definitely not least, I stole the bottom part of a box of glasses from the pantry.

(I suspect this will seal my fate when the Mrs. eventually finds out :lol)

Now here all the above elements painted and stuck together, and the result of this project.

A reminder of the screencaps

Thanks Mark :)

I got the wooden hand from ... wait for it .... eBay :lol

That looks fantastic Alan :eek It may look a little more like the screen one if you sprayed the glove copper.

Thanks Andy :)

I may do just that :thumbsup

Although I am unsure if its not the set lighting that is making it look coppery. (Is that even a word :lol ?).

Edit - Had another look at it.

Nah, I like it as it is :lol

Great addition to the archive Alan. This is a piece I've always wanted. I have the glove and back plates so far. Are the finger ends hard to do ? I was going to try to skulpters and cast them but melatonin looks like a better way to go.

Wow! It's like it came straight from the movie! Amazing work! Congrats!

Thank you :)

Cheers mate :).

Nope, not hard. I cut the metal with a pair of scissors and bent the main body over a thick pen. The cover was just superglued on. When it dried, I just sanded down the excess parts.

The hardest part was getting rid of the superglue on my fingers when keeping on the cover in place till it dried :lol

Had to do that, as the metal would have never been able to fit flush otherwise.

I may revisit the finger caps at a later stage and perhaps blend in some more copper colour. Undecided :confused, as I like the harsh bronze colour that makes it look really old and used :D

Love it! How did you get that great patina on the claws though? Just paint, or something more involved?

Thanks :thumbsup

First, a sanding of the claws with very coarse sandpaper.

Then, simply a blending of normal paint, using a horribly old and frayed paint brush :lol (but used on purpose, to get the uneven look).

First normal copper colour, then dabs of the same but mixed with a tad of black, then dabs of bronze.

Final seal with matt varnish.

Alan that is some cracking work putting it all together and finishing it. The claws are a thing of beauty and the fact that they are metal make them all the better!

You always come up with great displays, I may have to rob some ideas!

Cheers to you Karl for providing the centre-pieces :D

Now rob away & just do it :lol
