(Library Journal)
We Love Color from Stash Books contains 16 visually dynamic quilts from 16 'iconic designers.' Some are easy to piece, and some more complex, but one of the best features is the color key for Robert Kaufman Fabrics Kona Cotton Solids.
(American Quilt Retailer, May 2012)
I think this is the first time an entire fabric line has inspired a book. In We Love Color you will find 16 fresh exciting quilt projects all made using Kona Cotton Solids. The Robert Kaufman Company produces and ships millions of yards of Kona internationally and throughout the United States every year. There is certainly a place for these richly colored fabrics in quilts of all kinds from traditional Amish quilts to the new quilting styles of the modern quilt movement. To celebrate the creative spirit and the endless inspiration of the Kona Cotton Solids the Robert Kaufman Company has teamed with 16 of the modern quilt movements' leading designers. This book is a result of that collaboration. The projects in this book are bright, bold and colorful and range from modern to traditional. Although there are more modern quilts than traditional quilts you are presented with an opportunity to experiment with precision piecing, improvisational quilting or appliqué. You will find easy to read instructions and beautiful photographs. There is also an index to Kaufman colors so you can match the exact fabric for each project.
(The Applique Society Newsletter, September 2012)
16 quilts designers offer a fresh look at quilts in both modern and traditional styles. Using the more than 200 solid colors offered in the Kona fabrics line by Robert Kaufman, the designers experiment with piecing techniques, improvisational quilting applique and more. Included in an index to the Kaufman colors for exact matching to the projects.
(Modern Quilts Unlimited, 11/1/12)
Put versatile solid fabrics to use in quilts created by influential designers in the modern quilt arena.
(American Patchwork & Quilting, February 2013)
This book has 16 projects by amazing designers using Kaufman's colorful Kona Solids.
The designers are well known 'modern' quilters who have some great quilt projects—there's even an Aussie quilter amongst them :) It's hard to pick a favourite but I absolutely love Jacquie Gering's Think Big which is on the front cover—its bright and wonderful as is Malka Dubrawsky's Sweet as Pi baby quilt.
Each project has an introduction by the designer with comprehensive instructions and quilting and finishing tips. They range from easy to a bit more challenging with a few improv projects and applique as well.
There are very clear diagrams to help with putting the quilts together and there is a section toward the end of the book with general instructions on how to finish the quilt.
Also included in the book is an interview with Denyse Schmidt who talks about the use of solids in her quilts. The last pages have information about all of the designers of the projects and as a bonus all of the Kona solids used in the book are listed too.
This is a wonderful book for those wanting to make a quilt that uses the amazing array of colourful solids. (Leanne Elliott daisyandjack.blogspot.com, 2/12/13)
Who doesn't love color? We Love Color is a collection of 16 quilts made by some of today's leading designers in the modern quilt movement. They all use Kona cottons from Robert Kaufman Company. Some of the quilts look quite traditional, some abstract. You'll find structured pieced quilts and free-form landscapes. I was particularly taken by 'Orbit' by Jennifer Sampou, made with improvisational circles and strips. The book also includes an interview with Denyse Schmidt about her Paper Bag Piecing technique, which she uses to help students choose and combine colors to create their own one-of-a-kind quilts. A resource guide showcasing all the Kona cottons used in the book is included. (The Professional Quilter Magazine, Summer 2013)
