About this app

Signal is a messaging app with privacy at its core. It is free and easy to use, with strong end-to-end encryption that keeps your communication completely private.

• Send texts, voice messages, photos, videos, GIFs, and files for free. Signal uses your phone’s data connection, so you avoid SMS and MMS fees.

• Call your friends with crystal-clear encrypted voice and video calls. Group calls supported for up to 40 people.

• Stay connected with group chats up to 1,000 people. Control who can post and manage group members with admin permission settings.

• Share image, text, and video Stories that disappear after 24 hours. Privacy settings keep you in charge of exactly who can see each Story.

• Signal is built for your privacy. We know nothing about you or who you’re talking to. Our open source Signal Protocol means that we can’t read your messages or listen to your calls. Neither can anyone else. No back doors, no data collection, no compromises.

• Signal is independent and not for profit; a different kind of tech from a different kind of organization. As a 501c3 nonprofit we are supported by your donations, not by advertisers or investors.

So they fixed the message editing, but they messed up the camera. I now can't press and hold the shutter button to record a video. I don't think there is a video recording capability at all anymore. Unless they hid it somewhere? Also, taking a picture now is horrible. Why does the picture zoom in after I take it? People go forward, not backward, signal. One more star off from the three I had. Only 2 stars for you until you fix these issues.

Great overall! My suggestions are minor nits but would make signal feel more premium: I'd like the ability to increase text size by pan-zoom on messages. The default text size seems slightly small, but the large text size seems too large. Also, I'd like if time was hidden unless I clicked a message. Increasing the contrast of background/foreground may make things look nicer. Make the gif icon to the left of the input bar not square. It feels wrong.

While it seems okay, you can't post videos longer than 5 minutes. I do a lot of screen recordings and most are upwards of 10 minutes or more. While it does give you the chance to cut the video into segments, I would much rather be able to post longer videos like I can on some other platforms. Haven't had a chance to try my Bluetooth on it yet, so can't give a better or worse rating yet. Oh, also, sending links DOESN'T give an attached pic.

What's new

★ Now you can react with any emoji during a Signal call. Smile even if your camera is off, share a heart if you love what you're hearing, or vote for sushi instead of pizza without saying a word. And you'll even see an animation of everyone's emojional outburst if enough people in the call react with the same emoji all at once.
★ We also added a shortcut to edit sent messages by double tapping on the message bubble. Double taps aren't just for likes, unless you really like editing typos.
