Mark your calendars: Date set for Penn State football team's annual Lift for Life event

The Penn State football team will continue their fundraising efforts with Uplifting Athletes when the Nittany Lions hit the field July 12 for the 11th annual Lift for Life event.

Penn State's Paul Jones and Matt McGloin work the tire flip during the 10th Annual Penn State Football Uplifting Athletes Lift For Life. The offense beat the defense 176-136. The event was held at the Penn State Lacrosse Field.

The event will begin at 5 p.m. and for the second year will be held outside on the Penn State Lacrosse Field next to the Ashenfelter Multi-sport facility. The popular workout event allows football players to break off into teams where they compete in a grueling workout featuring tire flips, sled pulls and other strength and endurance events.

More than 80 Penn State football players competed in the event last year and together they raised more than $110,000 for kidney cancer awareness and assistance. Penn State's chapter of Uplifting Athletes has raised more than $700,000 for the Kidney Cancer Association since 2003.

Penn State's Eric Shrive was honored for his off-field work with Uplifting Athletes at the Maxwell Awards and will once again be in charge of the event this year.

The event is open to the public and a small donation is suggested. It takes place during the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts, a popular student and alumni weekend in State College.
