At Tangee's Treasures we offer our own line of finely handcrafted decorative botanical items, as well as supplies to create your own wonderful crafts! These vary from season to season as many of our items can only be harvested at certain times of the year.  Our items range from old fashioned potpourri made in small batches and aged to bring out the prefect blend of natural scents, mini sachets to tuck in drawers or closets, to decorative mini wreaths and gift sets. We also offer high quality moss, lichens, and various pine, alder, and other cones  to use in your own craft projects.

All of our hand-crafted items are made with individually selected ingredients, many grown in the lush green valleys of Oregon's temperate rainforest. The mosses, fir, pine, alder, and hemlock cones, as well as other woodland ingredients are carefully harvested by hand to insure that the forrest remains healthy thriving and constantly replenishing its self. Many are windfall harvested, meaning we wait until they fall off the trees either naturally or during wind storms. All are harvested by hand, taking care to leave plenty to assure healthy re-growth. Other items used in the crafting of our botanical items are grown in raised flower beds, clay pots, or small garden plots. Those items we can't grow are purchased from local farmers and horticulturalists when ever possible. For those few ingrediants that we can't grow or purchase locally, we look for quallity and consistancy as well as organic farming meathod in the items and the businesses we purchase from. All of the botanical items are individually hand crafted here in Oregon. We do this with you, the customer in mind. We want to make sure to give you the best product possible!

Plants are harvested at their peak color and scent for use in our potpourris. These potpourris are in turn used in all of our sachets, as well as our scented wreaths. Each blossom is hand picked and inspected before drying. Plants may be either naturally air dried, forced air dried in a small dryer / dehydrator, or pressed between non-acid paper in a flower press to dry, all depending on the type of flower or leaf and what it will be used for. For instance: roses work best when naturally air dried. Snap dragons, however, retain their color and shape better when dried in a dehydrator, and many leaves do best when flat dried in a flower press. Camellias are best when dried in a dehydrator with forced hot air to preserve their color and shape.

So, what happens next?

For potpourri, one of the main ingredients of many of our botanical items, the dried plant materials are combined with various natural oils and spices in 1 gallon jars. The jars are sealed and store in a cool, dark, dry place, letting the scent oils from the dried flowers, leaves and other materials combine with the natural oils and spices. The jars must be shaken and the contents stirred every few days. This is a traditional aging process which makes for a softer and richer scent than in commercially prepared potpourris. This is potpourri the way your grandmother or great grandmother made it! Once the potpourri has matured, it is heat pasturized in the glass jar in an oven. This helps seal in the scent, as well as stopping the aging process. After this the potpourri is ready to be packaged or made into sachetes, pillows, or other items.

Our scented corn husk mini wreaths are constructed with locally grown corn husks which have been cleaned and air dried. Depending on the style of wreath, some have thin flexible steel wire to help them retain their shape. Others have no wire, as the shape is produced through the wrapping tecnique used to form the wreath. Small dried flowers, leaves, alder cones and other natural materials, along with pretty satin ribbons, are then used to decorate the wreaths. Next the wreaths are stored in the potpourri jars of the prefered sent for the wreath. The wreath picks up the scent from the potourri as the potpourri is aged. Once the wreaths have been heat pasturized, they are sealed in zip-lock bags. They are then ready to be shipped out to decorate your favorite room.

Our moss wreaths and twig balls are made from hand harvested natural moss. They have not been dyed or the color enhanced in any way. The moss is gathered, then cleaned, air dried, and heat sterilized. Most wreaths have  individually constucted frameworks of thin gaged steel wire. The moss is then wrapped around or woven through the wire framework and glued in place using non-toxic glues.  No glue is used in our potporri filled twig balls. The moss is wrapped around and through the twig ball. Then we add many tiny hand-tied satin ribbon bows or dried flowers. The wreaths and twig balls can be decorated with dried flowers, leaves, nut shells, alder cones, etc., then finished with pretty satin ribbons from which to hang the wreath or twig ball.

Want to create your own wreaths, twig balls, or other natural decorations for your home? Just order some of our  high quality, hand gathered moss or lichens.  We also offer a variety of tree cones including douglas fir, alder, cedar, red wood, and hemlock. Our mosses and lichens are all natural with no added preservatives, or chemicals. All are harvested at their most useful and beautiful stage and are carefully cleaned and heat steralized to preserve their natural beauty. As we are in the middle of the rainy season here in Oregon, we currently have a wonderful selection of mosses and lichens available for your crafting pleasure. Other items will be added as they become available. Because these items are natural, they are also seasonal. Therefore, items offered will vary from time to time as different plants come into season.

With all of our botanical items, you will see variations in size, color, and decorative touches. One reason for this is that each one is an individual work of art, made by hand. Another, and just as important reason, is that it is much more fun and interesting to try new combinations of colors, textures and materials. You won't find these items in bulk in your local craft shop. Lastly, because many of our botanical items are gathered from the wild or organically grown, each  will exhibit its own unique individual charateristics.
