This is the dog that caused trains to stop in their tracks after he hopped aboard a carriage, travelled one stop and wandered onto the line at Richmond.

Dino, a two-year-old Alsatian cross, decided to take himself for a walk when escaped from the garden of his home in Upper Richmond Road, East Sheen, and boarded a train at Mortlake Station earlier this month.

The confident canine rode the train one stop, got off at North Sheen and was found trotting along the tracks at Richmond towards St Margarets.

His owner, Vahid Dadi, was alerted by a neighbour that the dog had gone missing and contacted his local vet, before finding out Dino was in the safe hands of Battersea Dogs Home.

Mr Dadi said: “I thought I wasn’t going to see him again. It is the first time he has ever been naughty.”

Mr Dadi was reunited with his dog later on the same day.

He said: “I was happy to see him and he was happy to see me. He is a very beautiful dog.”

Dino caused minor rail delays as trains had to be stopped and electricity turned off while he was rescued by a mobile operations manager from Network Rail, who spotted him walking along the tracks.

Although one train drove over Dino before he was retrieved he was found unharmed.

Hassard Stacpoole, a spokesman for South West Trains, said: “The railway is a very dangerous place. The third rail will kill you so it is a very lucky dog, I think Saint Francis was keeping an eye on him.

"It is a very unusual incident. We do get animals on the track, but I think this is the first time a dog has caused issues - certainly in London.”
