Mobile's historic homes tour is March 20-21

The Alsobrook home at 300 Rapier Street is a rare Arts and Crafts-style bungalow with a brick facade. It is one of the homes featured on the Mobile Historic Homes Tour.

MOBILE, Ala. -- The Mobile Historic Homes Tour on March 20-21, sponsored by Historic Mobile Preservation Society, will feature eight homes and gardens in the Oakleigh Garden District.

Martha LoCicero, chairwoman of this year's event, said the private homes on the tour range in construction dates from 1866 to 1929, with the majority having been built at the turn of the 19th century.

The Oakleigh Garden District takes its name from Oakleigh Mansion, circa 1833, and the homes that visitors will see are "a pleasant mixture of Queen Anne, Victorian and American Foursquare styles, complemented by appealing bungalows and even a few contemporary additions," according to the tour brochure.
The tour runs from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. both days. Tickets, available at any of the featured homes, are $15 for either of the two days or $12 per one-day ticket for groups of 15 or more. Ticket holders also receive free admission to Oakleigh Mansion on March 20, 21 and 22, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
