But saves the driver (me) from any injury.
Ok ok, I did get a tiny scratch on my knee from it busting the keyfob off in the ignition.

Sorry Vultures, I don't have much to sell and it's going to locals first. :D

Volvo safety FTW. Wasn't much I could do, southbound car spun out into northbound lanes where I was traveling. Speed limit on the road is 45 MPH and traffic despite a little snow was going about 40 MPH generally. It didn't feel very slippery to me with snow tires on the R, though of course with less than a second to react you can only bleed off so much speed even with good snow tires and Volvo ABS.

Oh well. I'm sure I'll be trolling the classifieds for another R as at least one of my replacement options. Also considering 2011+ S60 T6.

Any tips on getting the insurer to make a good offer on the total?

Wow, sorry to hear. At least you walked away w/o serious injury. Always thought you kept your R in great shape. We met up for a short gtg at MOA a few yrs back when I was passing through on my road trip.

Best of luck in the search for a replacement.

Yep, I remember that. We also met before that at a Denver GTG in summer of 2008 I believe.

This is the reason Saab put their ignitions in the center console. A safety tidbit their cousin Volvo never picked up.

Volvo relocated the ignition to the upper dash starting with the 2005 S40/V50 and all other later model refreshes after that did the same 2007+ S80, 2008+ V70/XC70, all C30s, 2011+ S60s.
I prefer the dash board, harder to spill a drink into the ignition there vs center console LOL.
Of course Volvo also now has PCC so you just leave your key in your pocket instead!

Despite breaking it off though my knee is fine. I've hurt it lots worse playing sports and that sort of thing, or just falling when I was a young kid, etc...

WOW - glad to hear you are ok.

Same here............wild pictures!!!

Wow, that blows.... I'm surprised though. The R looks way more jacked up than the other cars, and it also looks like a front passenger would have been F'ed.

The interior door panel cover got bent way in but the metal door and side impact structure was pushed in probably only a foot or less. The curtain and side impact airbags fired as they should. Passengers on that side would probably have some minor injuries. My side impact was at an angle from the rear, not straight on, so a very difficult challenge for a car to absorb. The Pontiac in the photos had the passenger door structure shoved all the way over to the driver almost. I didn't photo that damage but it was far worse. Total damage was the most on mine because mine was the only car with two impacts.

Man that is so sad to see a Sonic blue go, definitely my favorite color. Are you sure it is totaled? Looks like that might buff out.

#14 ·
Sadness :( With that Airbag "Service Urgent" message, it almost seems like the car is calling out "fix me!"

#19 · (Edited)
uh, you can't fix a car shoved from two sides, it will never get straight on a rack.

Glad you are OK, but your R will be missed! I loved the ice racing pictures. Such a shame.

Wow, Warpedcow, sorry to see your R go! You've been a long time member and an original R owner. Your contributions to this forum has been tremendous, I tip my hat to you sir. I hope you find a suitable replacement to your R. Any idea what you'll be looking at?

Here's your pretty Sonic in it's prime.

RIP.

Depends on how much the insurer gives and various other factors.
Will definitely be a Volvo (safety!)
Will consider 06-07 S60Rs/V70Rs either local or on swedespeed classifieds. Hard to find something good in a pinch though.
Also considering 2011+ S60 T6, as well as S80 V8s perhaps. I might even so a new 2013 S60 T5 AWD lease, pretty low rates on those now.

The good news is I've seen some great Rs on the market lately. Unless you are set on a certain color combo you should be able to get a good deal on one.

There have been so many snow/ice related accidents this season. I have a pretty tough decision to make in the morning. Do I drive my SR which is alot more fun in the snow and handles better or do I drive my Ford Taurus which handles like a potato. I usually drive the Taurus just because accidents like these where you have no chance to avoid scare me. I would be so devastated if my SR got totaled because of much time I put into it. I'm sure alot of guys on here feel that way. I can't believe some of you guys can keep a sense of humor when you run into misfortune like this.

Hmm, that's a tough choice. Save the car or my own life? Despite the love for my R, I would feel a lot safer driving her, and if she so happens to go down but save my life. So be it, at that point it's just a car and those extra Volvo Safety measures could be life changing.

Warpedcow, what a loss! Glad your ok - all that matters in the big picture.

Prettiest color ever painted on a Volvo and now gone:mad:

Good luck with the new car quest though - always fun!

Glad you're OK!
And it was the max saftey of Volvo that saved you.
Good luck with your next car.

So was it a bit scarey driving to work today?
Dam sorry to see it go. What a way to get into a VR.

Just real glad you walked away from it all. It bothered me enough that I didn't drive the R in today's snow.

Decided to telecommute but had I not it would have been no problem, the XC70 has brand new Blizzaks :D

I'm glad both you, and the other driver's were okay. From what I saw in the photos, this incident could have easily involved multiple fatalities.

Out of curiosity, is that a license plate wedged into the door?

Not sure what you're seeing there but no there is no plate wedged in there. One of the fog light bulbs from the SUV that hit there ended up inside my car though!

Very glad you're okay man!!!

GL on finding an SR/VR replacement - hopefully you'll find another SR Sonic Blue! :)
