Not Your Garden Variety Cache Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

the miser: It is with great sadness that I am archiving my first cache placed in 2004. Bird enthusiasts have removed all the habitats in the park and thus, this cache which was visited by almost 400 people will be archived. I will see about making another cache in the park, however, it will have to have a different container.

Geocache Description:

This cache is located in the middle of Hopelands Garden, which also houses the Thoroughbred Hall of Fame, Rye Patch and cottage. There are brick/hard dirt walkways throughout the area.

One of the visitor attractions in the middle of Aiken is Hopelands Garden which houses the Thoroughbred Racing Hall of Fame and Rye Patch. Hopelands Garden is a 14-acre estate that has been transformed into a public garden. It includes footpaths, reflecting pools, fountains and wetlands. The wetlands can be viewed on a floating boardwalk allowing visitors to see a variety of wildlife that includes plants, trees, ducks, turtles and fish. There is an amphitheater for concerts at night during the Christmas and summer seasons. Also, during the Christmas season, the gardens are decorated for the "festival of lights". The Thoroughbred Racing Hall of Fame celebrates Aiken's contributions to equestrian sports. A large collection of trophies, photographs, paintings and memorabilia are housed at the Hall. Tye Patch was the home of Mrs. Dorothy Goodyear Rogers. Aiken Driving Club has many historical carriages on display at Rye Patch. All three areas are free to the public.

Hopelands Garden is open daily from 10am to dusk. The Thoroughbred Hall of Fame is open 2-5pm Tuesday through Saturday, October to May and 2-5 Saturday-Sunday, June to August. No bike riding is allowed in the park.
