The Incumbent

Power didn’t shift last night in America. The challenger lost his bid at unseating the man who held the power when the day began. But even if Mr. Obama had lost it still wouldn’t have shifted in an ultimate sense. In many parts of the world Christians run into trouble with totalitarian regimes because they won’t acknowledge them as having absolute power. Authority is never native to the person, and believers stand out as an irritating reminder of this. We can encourage one another with the truth that the Lordship of Jesus Christ, seated at the right hand of God is never impugned any petty human ruler (even the most vile). We must remember that the heart of the King (or President) is a stream of water in the hand of the LORD; he turns it wherever he will (Proverbs 21:1). The “ruler of the free world” doesn’t even get up in the morning until God says so. The true Incumbent is still on the throne. In this we can rejoice.

My Pastor has a blog (I know, cool pastor, right?), and he posted this Wednesday morning. If you feel discouraged about the outcome of the election– or even if you don’t– it would be worthwhile to read this. My pastor believes in stating his opinion in 200 words or less. 🙂 It’s a fast and edifying read.

  2. AMEN!  Well stated Pastor Jon.   Thank you…Cissy & Jim
