SOMETHING TO TALK ABOUT Former Ald. Arenda Troutman pleads guilty Comment from jetgeorge: I admired Ms TROUTMAN at one time, but to find out that she was associating with what I think is one of the worst types of scum that is ruining our communities, makes me sick to the thought. Her association with this "Scandulous" drug dealer is what sealed the case for the FBI. They have more impotant things to do than sit around and try to "fix" our leaders. Our leaders should lead with dignity and loyalty to the people not follow criminals for the money. Have something to say? Comment.

Campaign 2008

Sports With no line, all bets off in Bears' preseason debut Mike Mulligan: There is just no way for the Bears to win tonight in their preseason opener against the Kansas City Chiefs. Oh, they should win the game. They should win it big, but doing so might create a false impression and unrealistic expectations for a team that still needs to settle key positions on offense.

Fu's gold: Phelps will win eight, then shave Jay Mariotti: BEIJING -- Kill the mustache. That's all I ask of Michael Phelps, who has a wonderful chance to become the most hallowed athlete on earth if only he spares us the visual of a mousy, malnourished Fu Manchu. If it doesn't quite resemble the sea algae that threatened the boating events, it's definitely closer to porn-star-droopy than Al Hrabosky.

Give thanks to Danks This was the formula White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen has been waiting for. Make that begging for. A starting pitcher still on the mound in the seventh inning, rather than showered and in street clothes, getting the next four days off to think about his miserable outing. A timely hit early on to give his team the lead and send a message.

Lifestyles Jewels of the city Let's admit it, we feel cooler wearing a piece of jewelry from a Chicago artist: It's like being part of a club nobody knows about. For those with no artistic abilities -- shoppers just happy to discover locally designed jewelry -- here are five local artists, each with a distinct vision and method for their craft, whether it's laminating old postage stamps or carving wood from an old baseball bat.

Entertainment Paul McCartney gets kicks on Route 66 Dave Hoekstra: The everlasting memory of my 1991 trip down Route 66 was the way I reconnected with the basic goodness of people. I was 36 and maybe something of a hot shot. The summertime trip from Chicago to Santa Monica, Ca. was a refresher course on how to listen to strangers, trust your heart and slow down. How great is it that Paul McCartney and his girl friend Nancy Shevell are checking out Route 66? Maybe I'm amazed.
