Childress, Texas - A Childress teacher's aide is out on bail, after being charged with sexual assault of a child.

The allegations first came to light just last week, when Childress ISD was informed an employee may be involved in a sexual relationship with a student.

This sparked an investigation by the Texas Rangers, and led to a woman landing behind bars and facing serious criminal charges.

Shanice Lambert, a Childress Independent School District paraprofessional, turned herself in to the Armstrong County Jail Wednesday.

She was charged with sexual assault of a child, and with having an inappropriate relationship with a student. Both of those charges are 2nd degree felonies, each carrying a $10,000 bond.

Lambert posted the $20,000 bond Wednesday afternoon and was released from jail.

However, she will not be returning to school.

After the accusations came to light on March 20th, Lambert was placed on administrative leave. That's when several agencies became involved in the investigation.

Just days later on March 23rd, Lambert was officially fired from her job with Childress ISD.

We spoke with the Superintendent, Rick Teran who says "student safety and welfare are of paramount importance to the District and all required actions concerning this matter have been completed by the District."

Lambert's case is expected to go before a grand jury in the near future.
