Headings you add to the document will appear here.
Captain Mence – Male. Mature voice. A consummate soldier who leads a suicidal stand to save the lives of the civilians behind him. Grim, serious, but devoted to his duty.
Artemis Station – Male or female. Age flexible. Flight controller for a critical civilian hub. Under immense pressure and desperately afraid, but nonetheless composed and professional. Think of the clipped tones of an air traffic controller.
Cormorant Officer – Male or female. 20-40. The last surviving officer on a dying ship; afraid, but not shrill or hysterical. Barely holding it together in the face of imminent death.
Gamma 3 – Male or female; voice in 20s or early 30s. Professional soldier under intense pressure, on the losing side of a key battle.
Post Meridian Delta 1 – veteran pilots on a critical mission.
Ensign Kassim – ka-SEEM, a young, unblooded pilot who keeps up a front of aggression and gung-ho bravado in order to conceal his inner fear and moral conflict. He is torn between his desire to be a great warrior hero like his ancestors, and his upbringing in the sensitive, pacifist culture of the United Earth Federation. Though verbally fierce, he has trouble killing and is haunted by thoughts of his victims. Ultimately, he cracks under combat stress and leaves the war. Play him as a young, strong, intelligent man trying his best, initially a cocky top gun but gradually degrading.
Captain Telfer
The leader of the first squadron the player flies with, Captain Telfer is as well-trained as they come, but he has very little wartime experience: he’s a squadron leader in a navy that hasn’t seen real war in 50 years. Use a natural, confident, direct voice – you are a strong commander and a good leader. As your role progresses, you will show more weariness, until finally you reveal your doubts and fears in some of your later lines. Be advised that this role is quite large and consists of a series of meaty speeches with a lot of unusual names and some technical jargon.
Ironhide Control - a cruiser captain under pressure
Suffron Control
Argent Mist Control
Solaris Control
Male/Female. Age: 20-30. Communications officer for the Navajas, the player’s squadron. A young professional; imagine an air traffic controller, composed and clear even in times of stress.
103rd Archers Flight lead
Akula Control
Male/Female, Age: Variable. Communications officer aboard a warship, pronounced ACK-uh-luh. It would rhyme with spatula if spatula were spelled ‘spakula’.
Shuduhune Alpha 1
A professional squadron leader and highly trained pilot who leads a risky attack. Women only.
Alliance News Reporter
A reporter for the sympathetic antagonist in the story. Imagine a CNN reporter. Severanti is ‘sev-a-RAUNT-ee’. ‘Toqueville’ is ‘TOKE-wa-ville’.
Secretary-General Toqueville
Captain Lloyd Sorensen
A commanding, articulate military man, with a sense of age and composure. This character is the captain of the warship Indus, where the player spends most of her time, and he provides guidance at key moments in battle as well as orders for important upcoming missions. He has a touch of chemistry, ambiguously platonic or romantic, with Captain Kyrematen of the frigate Yangtze, and near the climax of the story he is forced to abandon her to the enemy (she sacrifices her crippled ship so he can escape.)
As with all our roles, when in doubt, underplay; we are going for a serious, documentary-style approach here, so believability is key.
Captain Lorna Simms - the largest role in the script.
Captain Kyrematen - captain of the Indus’ sister ship Yangtze. A capable commander and seasoned fighter. Women only. Her name is ‘keer-uh-MAH-ten’.
Lieutenant Vicmouth - a quiet, professional, slightly unnerving man.
Ken: Male. A voice deep within Noemi’s mind (once simply an imaginary friend) that she has heard throughout her life, giving her a sense of direction. Noemi fears that this voice is a symptom of schizophrenia. Actor should sound deep, shadowy and mysterious, yet with tremendous charisma and presence. Bonus points if you sound like Ronnie Cox.
Admiral Chiwetel Steele
An absolutely pivotal character and a fan favorite, but a man with very little screen time proportional to his impact on the story. Chiwetel Steele is an antagonist, but not a villain: a determined, brilliant military leader who, like Patton or Sherman, is willing to go to great lengths to achieve victory. He is the personification of total war, a gentleman psychopath.
His voice is critical. Our inspiration for him (obviously) was Chiwetel Ejiofor’s role as the Operative in Serenity: soft-spoken, cultured, very articulate, but clearly ruthless and dangerous. He must not be overplayed or cheesy; when in doubt, underact. Feel free to experiment.
Elder Martin Mandho - a warm, aging advisor to Laporte.
Sergei Gwilym - a cunning leader of the radical Gaian Effort’s militant fighters.
Flight Lieutenant Karen Ng'Mei - a calm, compassionate woman who leads with gentle strength.
Vatican Control - a heroic cruiser commander
Rheza Control - a harried flight controller
GTCv Valerie - commander of an elite warship on a risky operation
Vikrant Control - bent on revenge
Random FleetNet stations - eerie, distant, tragic
Admiral Hans Maxwell Calder - an angry old fighter, pivotal character, think, perhaps, Robert DeNiro. After losing his home to Admiral Steele, he stews and plots revenge. Later in the story he’ll have some fairly low-key, contemplative scenes as he develops a friendship with the protagonist, so bring range to the role.
Ensign Vineto - a young male pilot
„Zero“
„Dishes“
Ensign Camerone - a young pilot, female
Dea Icaunis Control - cruiser commander, in trouble
Admiral Kyle Netreba - an admiral, out of his depth, thoughtful, technically inclined
Yangtze Control - frigate comms officer, male
Wargods Alpha 3 (Levi) - although something of a coward, Levi is a skilled pilot. Young man, sarcastic
Anjaneya Control - officer on a jamming ship
UEC Auxerre - cruiser captain, in hard fighting. You’re a command officer: keep your voice professional, brisk, clipped, and focused.
GTCv Medea - warship on a risky maneuver
Eris Control - flight controller
GTT Sampson - transport captain, abruptly betrayed
What Binds Us Scorpio 1 - flirtatious rogue, male
Coucil of Elders Spokesperson - wise, serene
Knight 1 - grizzled elite pilot
Reshadiye Control - comms officer on a high-security VIP transport
Elder Taudigani - a wise, mysterious, slightly threatening old woman. She has key information about the protagonist, but she’s assassinated on the verge of delivering it.
Admiral Recamai - an alien
GTCv Antenor - warship captain, mature voice, pleads with his Admiral
UEA Hanuman - comms officer on a black ops ship. A professional soldier, calm under pressure.
Admiral Anita Lopez - fleet commander, maternal but with a sharp edge. Deeply loyal to her crews. An elite officer, Lopez’s strategic talent and obvious care for her subordinates inspires ferocious loyalty. She finds her compassion turned against her when the enemy seeks to draw her into a trap. Mature, confident, assertive voice. Spanish accent preferred but optional.
Captain Genady - a tough, tarnished nail of a captain. Veteran of some of the hardest fighting of the war, Genady lost his home, thousands of his comrades, and his own moral standards to the war. As captain of Katana, Genady prays for a chance to redeem himself for his sins - and he finally gets his chance, sacrificing himself to save the Indus and Yangtze.
Captain Albani - a tough, veteran captain, female. As a command officer, most of your lines will be professional and focused, even as the situation disintegrates around you. Though fairly little of your backstory makes it into the script, you’re a mother, an experienced soldier, and a dedicated friend to your colleague Captain Genady, who you choose to die alongside.
UEF Court Martial Panel
Insuperable Control - cruiser captain
Kyoto Control - cruiser captain, going down fighting
Masyaf Control - black ops leader - a soft-spoken, focused, slightly eerie man or woman. Representative of a shadowy paramilitary intelligence unit.
Katana Tactical Officer (females preferred) - a professional military officer, advisor to a warship captain. The brunt of the mission’s exposition falls on you.
Katana Flight Officer - a professional military officer, advisor to a warship captain.
Katana Gunnery Officer - a professional military officer, advisor to a warship captain.
Triteia - an enemy warship. Prefer female voice.
Simak Station - a principled, ethical civilian station chief.
Bowman Station - a civilian station chief, about to explode.
