New Ala Alba Set [Negima]

Having read the end of the Negima manga, such as it is, I was inspired to revisit my original Ala Alba Set. I did this both to address the characters as they have become, and because I realized that some cards were, shall we say, a little 'off.' Here I submit them for your evaluation revised and 'finished.' There are some things that you may notice as you look over them. I'll address a few issues straight off.

First, I chose characters who were part of Ala Alba's efforts against Cosmo Entelekheia, and later on. I included the Ariadne girls because they played major inspirational parts to others and because we know they would continue to support Negi. I did not include Mana because she is a mercenary, Zazie because she does not support Negi in any consistent fashion, and Takane and Mei because I do not think they could contribute in a way that the others cannot already do. In this way, I arrived at exactly 30 non-Fusion monsters. The members of Ala Alba are monsters if they have skills transferable into combat, and Equip Spells if they cannot.

You will find some details on the cards I've added as a bonus. The first is that I put Artifact names in the Circulation field. Where it didn't, I either added something fun or left the field blank. I also used the Ministraes' official titles a lot. Hopefully it will be easier to remember them that way. You will also notice that I am still using my #xx card numbering system. It keeps the pictures nicely organized in their files, I find. A number of these cards are recycled from my Dungeon Crawlers and Cuteness Counterattack Sets. As I created the effects and pulled them together in the first place, I'm not worried about that detail all that much. I simply want to show Ala Alba's final development.

To that end, many of the higher-level versions are Fusion Monsters (I haven't got the hang of Synchro or Exceed Summons, so I figure I'll leave them alone). Because I had pictures, and could find others fairly easy, I also included early-version Fusion Monsters. I imagined getting into a situation where the early non-fusions were in danger of being destroyed -- and pulling them out of the fire by fusing them, if only for a couple turns while I got the right card. That's why I included the effect of being able to summon the material monsters back to the field on the early Fusions, and not on the higher-level ones -- and besides, it would be massively unfair to be able to recall high-level material that way.

Of course, I am still learning and asking for your help in learning and developing my skills at making these cards. If you have any honest and evaluative words of wisdom, I would be happy to consider them. In the meantime, please do enjoy browsing my latest work.

In testing against my other new/revised decks, Ala Alba emerged the king, although not without a few problems to start. Drawing Ku off the top meant I could use her effect to summon her -- but she got wiped out by Bubbles (Aww Factor) of all people. Being able to borrow Azure Wing's 'Smiles for Swordsmen' by equipping Yue with 'Orbis Sensualium Pictus' made me glad I'd held her back, though: a little added defense meant Magic Detective Yue was able to hold the fort until Ala Alba was ready to build more strength. Between Ala Alba and Aww Factor both Azure Wing and Celestial Being were soundly shut down, although Sakibure was able to hold out for a long time with its 4500 DEF (because I didn't want Eva to simply freeze it out). After that Yue, Eva, and Negi basically shut down everything Aww Factor could throw at them, even with AF's Eva insta-respawning Negi and Chachamaru -- AF used the same trick to give Eva enough power to beat Sakibure. It didn't take long. There was a funny moment when AF's 'Full Moon' was powering both of their Evangelines, but that passed when 'Smiles for Swordsmen' came into play again. In the end, Ala Alba was just that much more powerful and able.
