Trip Report:
Since I hadn't been skiing in almost three weeks, I was intent on going today in spite of the recent setbacks from the weather. I rode up with a friend who is a Sugarloaf employee so I got to the mountain around 7:30 am an hour before the mountain opens. I hung out and walked around the base area for a little while and then around 8 o'clock I got ready and went over to the SuperQuad to stake my claim. When I got there, there were three other people also just getting there and setting down there skis at the front of the line. I joined them to make a group of four and then we waited for the opening bell. By 8:30, there were probably a few dozen people in line. The people I was with advised me to be ready to shoot down to the lift, as there would be some competition to get the first chair (even though we were in the best spot) so I did that and succeeded in getting on the first chair with the three other people. After that, I skied down to Skyline and got the first chair there with one person I had originally ridden up with on the SuperQuad. But that is a bit trivial.
Anyways, I skied a good amount on the SuperQuad, Skyline, and King Pine and all of the open trails were groomed. I also did one run each on Timberline, Bucksaw, and West Mountain just to explore different places. West Mountain may have been the longest chairlift I have ever ridden (239 chairs). But I didn't take any photos of ski lifts because it was too cold (probably below 10 degrees). Snow was being made on several of the trails which turned out to be good soft powder runs (although not like the real stuff). Overall, the skiing exceeded my expectations considering the crazy weather lately. Of course it would have been way more awesome if Bubblecuffer, Winter's Way, and Brackett Basin were all open, but I still managed to have a great day.
