Community Leader Nominated As Harrison Successor

Members of the Baltimore City Democratic Central Committee representing the 45th Legislative District have decided to send the name of Nina Harper to the full central committee as the nominee to finish out the term of the late Del. Hattie Harrison.

Committee chairman Scherod Barnes tells WBAL News that Harper has been an activist and community leader in the Oliver neighborhood for more than 30 years.  She has served as the executive director of the Olive Community Association in addition to being a current member of the central committee.

Harper’s name will go before the full central committee at their next meeting on Wednesday, where it is expected to be forwarded to Governor O’Malley for the formal appointment.

Harrison died in January at the age of 84.
