BUTTERWORTH: A man has jumped off the Penang Bridge after allegedly killing a woman at Jalan Raja Tun Uda here.

North Seberang Prai OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Asri Shafie said the suspect, 29, was nabbed by policemen after he was saved by a group of fishermen.

He said the suspect is currently receiving treatment.

"Police received information from the public about the incident at 11.10am on Tuesday (Dec 19)," he said.

ACP Mohd Asri said the suspect allegedly slashed the victim's neck with a machete.

He said the victim, 42, was sent to Seberang Jaya Hospital and pronounced dead at 11.58am.

He said initial investigations found slash wounds on the victim's neck and left shoulder.

"Several eyewitnesses were at the scene when the incident happened," he said, adding that there was a close circuit television close to where the incident occurred.

He said a post-mortem examination on the victim will be conducted at the Seberang Jaya Hospital.

The case has been classified under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
