Must we always settle things with a chainsaw? Surely there are less messy ways of punishment? Bloodstains are SO hard to wash out.

Since this is Touhou fandom we are talking about, all disputes should be solved with the Spell Card Rules.

Little Pandemonium

, Broken Moon

Spellcard Motif: Hell | Oni/Demons | Density
Notable spellcards: IaMP, SWR, StB, DS

Write-up:
Suika Ibuki. The original oni. Fighting in every weight class available, but rivaled by perhaps no fighter the known world has to offer. An ally to some of the most influential forces active in Gensokyo, or perhaps more of an intelligent force of nature that seeks amusement as its prize. An entire community of some of the strongest youkai fear her. The original oni, and perhaps the most powerful.

She just appeared one day in the form of a strange mist covering the entire land, using her power to manipulate density. Her goal was to gather all the people of Gensokyo, human and youkai alike, to participate in non-stop festivities, to attract the attention of her oni friends to the surface world... again, using her power to manipulate density. Of course, plucky player characters rose up to put an end to that incident – and she flattened them. Using her power to kick just about anyone's ass.

Suika's character is both simple and multifaceted. As a tiny girl with the ability to rip a whole mountain a new one, she has great potential for both comedic and badass portrayals, the former of which is of course greatly helped by her oni-style perpetual drunkenness and her aggressively cheerful very own style of literally drunken martial arts, coupled with the body of a gradeschooler stuck in a very ambitious Halloween costume. On the other hand, it's interesting to think about the other side of her character: An insightful cynic who will gladly point out the viles and shortcomings of those who oppose her, who apparently decided to leave behind the perpetual partying of the Underground to travel the surface. Her attempt to convince them to come along didn't work out, but she herself has risen even further and now has a home in the sky – how ironic for a creature as hellish and irreverent as her!

Suika is a small girl with horns who has unspeakable powers, brutally fights for fun, is a fan of taunting her enemies, has an entire arsenal of references to various stories from Japanese folklore, possesses an accessory that apparently stands for enlightenment in some obscure way, and is perpetually drunk. She is Suika Ibuki, and she might very well be the essence of Touhou compressed into a single being.

  • Reimu and Yukari (friends)
  • Yukari (friends, too?)
  • Tenshi (neighbors)

It's remarkable that the one character who can be as big as she wants to be has decided she wants to be tiny.

Might take a while if I am to write anything meaningful for this one. I'll just say this: Remember back at Yuugi when I referred to her as "the interesting oni"? Yeah, that should pretty much show my opinion of Suika. I don't dislike her, and I don't completely overlook her (like I did with Koishi prior to reading this thread), but I just don't really care either. Suika is just kinda blah to me.

The fact that she apparently canonically beats everyone up doesn't exactly help her case, but she does have the "onis are strong, duh!" excuse for that. (I wouldn't know for sure on this, due to "endings ban" and the fact I don't/can't go out of my way to confirm. Sorry)

Sorry, I wasted a post slot with my meaningless moaning, didn't I?

Don't PM me. We don't like being PMed.

I'm just going to straight up proclaim my love for Missing Power. It's the best damn theme in the entire series. If I could figure out how to link You Tube videos, I'd just fill a post with various remixes in an effort to prove its awesomeness.

Naturally. For that matter, she may want to make herself look less intimidating if she's trying to gather people, given the reputation of oni.

While I can't really think of anything to say about Suika either, I'm not sure how Yuugi is any better in this regard. Seems to me that Yuugi is just like Suika but with less characterization. The same but less. Although I suppose that may be exactly why certain people like to talk about underused characters *coughkisumecough*.

Missing Power is one of the greatest boss themes ever. I actually like to play it (or hum it in my head) while fighting bosses in other games. As a character theme though, I don't think it fits Suika very well. Making Broken Moon her main theme for SWR seemed like the right idea. It's one of the best Touhou songs ZUN never wrote.

Suika is definitely Badass and/or Badass Adorable.

According to Yukari Suika could beat her, Reimu, and Yuyuko at once and Aya claims she is the strongest youkai.

Oh, we're starting her today... I didn't have time to prepare... Un momento, por favor?

Since she's not used to using spell-card-like spell cards, when she decides to use one once in a while, this unfair spell card is the result. Oni sure are behind the times. They don't know the newest spell cards for playing around. -Marisa Kirisame, on Pandemonium
Basking in the sun without a care, oh my... Everyone drinking sake... I'd like to spread this dream. -Suika Ibuki

Of Note:

Suika's power is control over density. Gathering and spreading things at will. Doesn't makes much sense, but it pretty much makes Suika as godmode as Yukari if you think about it.

Suika specializes in physical combat, so she rarely appears outside the the fighting games. Still, that's more than some characters. Five appearances total. Three had danmaku, so I guess my previous statement was somewhat false.

The shapes she wears each represent something, ''The circle is for nothingness, which signifies diffusion; the triangle is for harmony, or collection. The square is for permanence, and stands for the self." -ZUN

She blew up the Moon once just because she thought people forgot about the Oni. The Watasuki's were not available for comment, but it appears she didn't blow up the real moon, just its visibility on Earth.

Suika is always drunk, and her gourd is lined with something from sake worms, so it always produces an infinite supply of sake.

Suika is one of the four devas, and quite possibly the strongest of them.

Music:

Onigashima in the Fairyland is nice, but it pales in comparison to Broken Moon.

Broken Moon is awesome.

I've spent to much time listening to the former while attempting to beat Pandemonium.

Overview

Suika is an Oni, so that helps give a start on characterizing her. She is strong, impulsive, and drunk. Really, really, really drunk. She's watched all of Gensokyo as a mist from the day she left the Underground. Thus, she has a first-hand knowledge on all of Gensokyo's inhabitants, but she seems more interested in a select bunch. In Immaterial and Missing Power she uses her power of gathering to manipulate these people into having feasts for three days, but Yukari helps the PC put a stop to it on the third day. That said, she seems to have met and talked with Yukari previous to the events in that game.

Compared to Yuugi, Suika is portrayed as much more childish and insincere. Despite her age, she doesn't seem to have the understanding that Yuugi has. She's okay with the Tengu owning the Youkai Mountain, but she still doesn't respect the fact that they don't want her there. She just wants to party, that is her singular goal in life. She doesn't seem to understand the concept of work. She helped around at the shrine when she was there, but she also caused plenty of problems. Well, Suika, you've reached the top, now what?

tl;dr: What makes her a good oni? Well, if she was a bad oni we wouldn't be discussing her now, would we?

I think little kid Suika is her natural body since when she grows, her proportions don't really change. She's still a little kid, just scaled up.

[up][up] I think you're thinking of Shiki for the Yukari, Reimu, and Yuyuko thing.

Indeed. I find it amusing to imagine the circuitous information-gathering route that must have been taken to mistake Eiki for Suika though.
