Most of the screenshots were just known parts of the fortress with my own constructions in view, but one had a pretty inexcusable secret in there. I hope not too many people were affected by it. Also, LeJackal, I'm sorry if I came off as antagonistic, that wasn't my intention.

Don't worry, once I get in charge I'll kill your dwarf for your transgressions, if you have one and he's still alive.

I'm working on the next update right now, would have it screenshotted but for one overriding factor, but... POSTED BY ORDER OF OVERSEER SKY SHADOWING The Overseer of Bronzestabbed is seeking a Volunteer for a potentially Dangerous Task. Upon completion, Volunteer is Guaranteed a life of Luxury. Please inquire with the Overseer should you wish to attempt this. No combat skills are believed necessary. Dead Dwarves need not apply. Granite 245 Today I saw Overseer Sky Shadowing put a message in the Dining Room. I asked Uncle Munky and he said Uncle Sky wanted a "voluntier". He says that it is a good thing to do, because then he would trust me, and I could help Uncle Munky. I am not sure how but Uncle Munky is a ghost therefore he must always tell the truth. I hope there is cheese in Luxury. ----- [i.e. I volunteer. At this point Dwarven Frozen Flame is still a child, I believe. The journal can be edited as necessary] Edit: Sorry Leperflesh Frozen_flame fucked around with this message at 01:48 on Jan 29, 2013 |

Ohtsam Lecadlogem, 28 Granite 245 When I signed up to come to Bronzestabbed I was hoping to accomplish something. The way my Uncle Jessant spoke about this place made it seem like something real was going to be done. I've been here 6 years now and the only thing notable to happen to me was being forced to live in a dank swillhole with other worshippers of Ugath. I'm tired of being a farmer, and so I've decided to answer the Overseer's call for volunteers. If anything is going to change for me I'll have to do it myself. ------------- I can tell this is going to end well.

We've got enough volunteers. I'll either roll a dice Overseer-selection style to determine who gets to go on a mission, or just pick the first. Probably the random selection.

You already had that roll Bad Munki, but you managed to dodge it like the true professional you are. Some time "I Spy" has become very boring. It is always "Wall" or "Magma". That said, TildeATH stumped me for a time with "Window" the other day. Prayed to Ugath once again for rescue. Also prayed to Ugath to smite LeJackal with embarrassing disease. Outcome unknown but hoping for the best.

I really want to thank everyone for being so on the ball with removing the spoiler. I speak for the other lurkers out there. Really liking the way this year is going. I didn't think we'd be able to re-create the magic of Gemclod here, but I am really impressed with Leperflesh taking charge and everyone who has taken a turn. Thank you, Sky Shadowing. Also, I believe we should all Fear the Simian of Inferior Quality.

DarkProject posted:I really want to thank everyone for being so on the ball with removing the spoiler. I speak for the other lurkers out there. Yeah, these things seem to go in cycles - a great one followed by one that, while entertaining, somehow never reaches the level of awsomeness the previous one does. I think its the bugs. The version used for Gemclod was the first one (IIRC) to use the new health system and forgotten beasts. this lead to the Nolio section, and Commatoes spending all most of the fort bedridden - because crutches were broken until near the end! Speed tends to help, if you get an overseer who is a little slower than the others, then momentum is lost. I really think that the time limits should be enforced, unless the overseer needs another 24 hours or so to finish up - when a turn drags on for a month, it hurts the LP. Not to say that I'm not enjoying this - its just a bit of constructive critisim. (I may put my money where my mouth is for the next election.)

1st Slate LeJackal finally answers my summons, and I am none too pleased with the answers he gives. The missing children, TildeATH and Picked Tink are imprisoned, by him, for the crimes of sedition against the fortress. LeJackal used his authority to imprison them without trial. It is now clear to me that the children must be freed, and tried fairly by the Authority of Her Majesty Queen Sankis, but the words of LeJackal- that the children cannot be freed- sticks in my mind. As for the door I had mentioned, I learned today it was meaningless. I discovered a secondary access tunnel that led to the place in question, and the door was merely a fortification against beasts who lurk beyond the well-shielded mines of Bronzestabbed and in the wild and untamed caravans beyond. 3rd Slate A group of dwarves approach from the south. Some dwarves outside the walls stop them, and they shout to me "MIGRANTS!" As before, we line them up by family units: OniElem the Metalcrafter, husband of Hobglob the Fisherdwarf. They are the parents of current residents DrMelon and Hutter. chewymouse the Wood Burner, husband of Woozelz the Farmer. Rain the Weaver, wife of Zergle the Wood Cutter. Terror storm the Ranger, wife of Gildiss the Herbalist. Terror storm is the cousin of deceased resident Fitzy Fitz. Gildiss is the cousin of current resident Koorisch Toussaint Louverture the Glassmaker, traveling here by herself. NoPants the Doctor, wife of salttotart the Woodcrafter, and their daughter Impy. I point to the Sword of Destiny. "That is our mission, now your mission, to be that. We are the weapon of The Rare Ships against that which threatens it, be it the goblins overruning our mountain halls or the dark forces that threaten us from beyond." I waved my hand to the north, indicating the murk fields. "The sooner you come to terms with this, the easier it will be." 8th Slate I spy Geekkake carrying a hunk of donkey lung up to the animal cages. She approaches the captive giant cave spider and feeds it the meat, cooing. I back away and consider ordering the military to the area in case it should escape, but it, like my faithful Stinthad, eats the meat and does not attack her. Maybe I was wrong about the animal trainers. 9th Slate Finagle gives birth to a healthy baby girl named Arioch. The father, Steelion, is a member of the military, and I congragulate him. 11th Slate I put a notice up on the walls of the dining room to see who would be brave enough to undertake a possibly very dangerous mission. I believe I have located the prison of the missing children. There are two clearly marked levers, one reading 'Magma Drain' and the other reading 'Bridge Control'. Of course, LeJackal claims the levers have a negative effect, but I believe he is bluffing. By virtue of random selection, JollyPubJerk was chosen as the dwarf who would pull the levers. I don't believe I am the right man to perform this task, being that should I die, the fortress would be without leadership. JollyPubJerk is informed of his task, and immediately goes off to have a stiff drink. 15th Slate A thief somehow made its way all the way into Typhus Memorial Depot. It was discovered, and ran screaming away. I don't believe it escaped with anything of value, but I make a decision to review the fortress security measures. 20th Slate JollyPubJerk is in position to pull the levers, but I have ordered doors to be placed to keep the dwarven children from escaping. While putting an animal to pasture, Grittybeard is scared off by an enchinada that has somehow gotten loose in our areas. I seem to remember that it went wild. In any case, it does not appear to me to be particularly frightening. I send Mad Wack to deal with it before it becomes more of a disruption. 23rd Slate SynthOrange is seen feeding one of the stray kittens. When he walks off, it follows him. Apparently, he is now its owner. 25th Slate The doors are in place. I, Leperfish, Mortal Sword the Militia Commander, and Mr. Vile the Hammerer stand a respectable distance away as the order is issued for JollyPubJerk to pull the 'Magma Drain' lever. He takes one last drink from the strawberry wine battle he'd brought to keep his nerves steady, and puts his hand on the lever. He pulls. I can still hear his screams in my head as we make a hasty retreat. Magma poured from the roof and overwhelmed JollyPubJerk. 26th Slate The screams of JollyPubJerk echoed through the caverns, and a foul wretched scream answered them. Clearly there is something living down there that we have disturbed. 28th Slate My dreams at night are filled with smoke and fire. The flesh melting off Dwarven bones, them turning to ash. Visions of great winged beasts fill my head before I am set aflame and wake up in a cold sweat. I can smell smoke even in my waking hours. (for the non-DF player, the forgotten beast has set the lower caverns on fire) I dare not mess with the prisons' defenses anymore. The children are beyond my reach, but LeJackal... he is still there.
