Niwot High School will reopen Monday as police continue to investigate a suspended student for making a “hit list” naming 30 classmates, according to a message from the principal to parents.

Principal Dennis Daly did not name the student but said he or she will remain suspended “until a number of concerns related to the incident have been resolved.”

Bomb-sniffing dogs canvassed the campus after the school discovered the alleged “hit list” on Thursday. Deputies will monitor the school and neighborhood Monday, and extra district staff also will be on campus this week, along with other extra security measures, Day stated.

The hit list followed the discover of a threat scrawled on a bathroom stall last Monday stating the school was “going to blow on the 11th,” which was Friday. Classes were cancelled Friday.

“Despite the visible increase of law enforcement professionals, when your student returns to school on Monday Niwot’s teachers and staff will be focused on education excellence and returning the building’s learning environment to normal,” Day stated.

“To be clear, based on the information and recommendations we are receiving from law enforcement and the extensive security measures in place, Niwot High School is ready to move forward.”
