Technology in the Classroom: Scratch Workshop - UVU
June 22-24, 2011 at UVU by Computer Science Department
The UVU Scratch workshop is intended for K-12 educators and interested girls in grades 7-12. Student and teachers will be in two different workshops. No previous programming experience is necessary, only a willingness to learn something new.
The workshop will be taught by Dr. Curtis Welborn in a UVU computer lab allowing for a hands-on interactive learning environment. We understand that most educators have a full schedule of teaching required curriculum and thus have little room for adding new topics to the required curriculum. As such we will not push you to add Scratch to your classroom curriculum; rather we will encourage and assist you in looking for innovative ways to incorporate Scratch into your current curriculum as a way to reinforce important topics. You are encouraged to bring ideas, strategies and questions you may have about incorporating Scratch into your curriculum. Time will be allocated during the workshop to allow educators to share both strategies as well as questions.
Cost is not an issue with Scratch as the Scratch programming language and documentation about Scratch is freely available from the internet.
For students the cost is free. For teachers the cost is $15.
