Help Shellness Golf Course
Hi,
My name is Kelly and my family have been coming to the island since the 1950’s maybe before!
We are quite sporty and have always used Shellness golf course for entertainment when on the island.
Shellness golf course has been there for as long as I can remember and been a great past time for a fantastic price (£4.00) for the 9 holes. My dad has played there, me and my brothers have used it and now I am taking my nephews!!
I have been taking my nephews there everyday this week and been talking to the very kind hearted man that’s owns the course. His name is David and he built the course with his wife all those years ago.
COVID has hit this place hard, for two years it has been shut and business is still trying to pick up.
David has to divide his time between his passion which is the golf course and looking after his wife.
If you have time please go and visit this goldmine and have a chat with the lovely gentleman.
The roof needs repairing on the hut and the fence around the green. I would love to be able to help out and support this local business by way of donation or if you could take your children there for a game to help the business.
The cost is £4.50 for adults or £3.50 for children (50p cheaper if you have your own clubs)
I am happy to contact the local paper to publicise the donation to the hut. Please help me to help him
This fundraiser will finish bank holiday weekend to be able to present the golf course with the money
Thank you again
A little history
As you walk into the main gate when you're walking towards the hut you will see the long grass on your left and that is where their first ever hut that they used to serve out of was situated it was the size of a small garden shed.
Also around the back of the hut that he serves out of now there used to be a small railway line and a couple of small railway sheds where an elderly gentleman used to run his trains along around the golf course and take children and their families for little rides on it.
When you're walking past the ditch at the 5th tee up towards the 5th green you will see a long slightly dipped away part of the course that was used as a runway in the war and there are a couple of crater looking dips around that area as well which where were a couple of bombs in the war were dropped.
