Message from Tim Lam
Hello everyone! This month, I thought I would pull something from my graduation remarks about being involved. We all have limited time, so we must choose wisely where we participate and align ourselves with. This applies to both our personal and professional lives.
Professionally, it is not enough these days to just go to class or take a course. It's all about who you know. Joining industry associations is a great way to meet people. By joining, I don't just mean join, but really participate. Go to meetings, get out of your comfort zone and introduce yourself to people. The best way to engage with members is to volunteer, perhaps join a committee within the association. That is how you build lasting relationships. If you need help, contact one of us at the school.
TISOH has made participating in industry associations mission critical from day one. We are proud to not only be members, but to also actively participate in numerous associations. From AHLA, NHLA to SNHCA, ILEA, NACE, NvRA, WIPA and others.
As a member of the school family, be bold. Go out, and participate. You will find it to be a life changing experience, as I have.
Sincerely,

The Summer Slump
"Tips on how to stay active at work during the summer season." Summer is quickly approaching and many of us will experience a drop in productivity on the job because of the heat. While many families and individuals are taking their vacation during the summer season, most of us would still have to go to our jobs counting down the time before we can leave. Instead of embracing the sunny warm weather, the summer slump will leave many of us feeling drained and exhausted to do anything after work. Below are some quick fixes to increase your energy and boost your performance while at work.
Keep on walking
Sitting idle at your desk can result in a sluggish state. Try taking mini breaks when you have the chance. A quick walk or taking your lunch outside can get you out of your slump. The more you move around at work, the more active you will be. The hours would seem to go much faster if you are gradually changing your work area. Bring in some natural lighting
Brighten your office space by opening up your shades and window. Having an office that is dark and dreary will make you sleepy. Also add some greenery to make your office vibrant and lively. Flowers or a small plant are strongly recommended. Staycation
Take full advantage of your weekends by embarking on short trips to Red Rock Canyon, Mount Charleston, or Lake Mead. If that is too far, book a stay at any of the many Las Vegas resorts on the Strip. You can experience a world class spa treatment, dine at a restaurant by a famous chef, or party like a Rockstar at the hottest nightclub. Las Vegas is considered one of the "entertainment capitals of the world" so entertain yourself whenever you can.
Water is your friend
Most importantly is to stay hydrated and drink lots of water when you are feeling a little fatigued. If the taste of water is too boring for you, add some flavor by mixing in fruit like oranges and strawberries.
Hopefully with these tips in mind, you can get through your workday feeling cool during these hot summer months. Until next time, have a great day at work!

Hotel Concierge celebrate the city's best in true Vegas style
|
TISOH is a proud supporter of the Southern Nevada Hotel Concierge Association (SNHCA) which recently hosted a spectacular annual awards gala at the OMNIA Nightclub in Caesars Palace. We congratulate the winners and nominees of the SNHCA Top Honors awards, which highlight the very best restaurants, shows and attractions our dynamic city has to offer.
The evening also debuted the associations new logo (pictured above), showcased under the other-worldly light show provided by the OMNIA chandelier, an engineering marvel that feature gigantic concentric circles that move independently with the music firing the over 60 mounted light cannons, making the dance floor come alive like never before. The video below shows the light chandelier in all of its technological glory. Never has the moniker "only in Vegas" been so apt!
