The mission of the Plainview Elementary Media Center is to provide students with a fun and safe environment in which students can learn, grow, and explore. We will foster a love of reading and learning by becoming lifelong users and creators of information. The library will serve collaboratively to curate a library collection that is representative of the community and literacy instruction of students.

Plainview Elementary Media Center Vision Statement:

The Plainview Elementary Library Media Center Programs seeks to create a 21st century learning environment in which students learn and become users of information. In addition, it seeks to help learners become lifelong readers for both learning and fun. The library media center strives to be a center for collaboration that creates students that are creative, critical thinkers, lovers of literature, and show respect for themselves and others.

About the Librarian

Mrs. Godfrey is currently the librarian and Gifted and Talented teacher at Plainview Elementary School. She graduated from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro with her Master's Degree in  Library and Information Sciences.  Prior to becoming a school media specialist, Mrs. Godfrey taught 3rd grade and 4th grade English/Language Arts and Social Studies.  She is a product of Chesterfield County Schools, having attended school in Chesterfield, SC.

Mrs. Godfrey is an avid reader and loves to read children's literature, middle grade literature, and young adult literature. Her favorite genres are fantasy, realistic fiction, and biography. She is a member of the South Carolina Association of School Librarians and is currently serving on the South Carolina Picture Book Nomination Committee. Mrs. Godfrey serves as the CCSD Library Representative for the Olde English Consortium. She is a member of #BookPosse,  an advanced reader team for many different authors in which they share their books and review them. This allows her the opportunity to view books before publication and includes picture books, children's novels and nonfiction, middle grade and young adult literature. This is a great opportunity for a bibliophile such as she. It also helps her  to be aware of great literature before it comes out.
