We are releasing this online survey to gauge the Emory community's attitudes towards single-use plastics and Emory's current waste management system.
Some key terms:
Single-use plastic: disposable plastic products with an intended lifespan of 24 hours and are intended to be used once. Examples include single-use plastic straws, utensils, service ware, plastic bottled beverages, and shopping bags
Non-essential: disposable, not absolutely necessary items with readily available alternatives. These can be replaced with reusable containers, compostable containers, bulk-serve options, or take back programs – all while taking into account the needs of those with differing abilities and restrictions that require use of such items.
Compostable plastic: refers to the plastic that can be accepted by industrial composting facilities and are labeled "compostable" at Emory locations.
Reusables: items that can be used multiple times. They can be cloth, wood, glass, metal, or even durable plastic. (eg: metal straws, cloth bags, bamboo utensils).
