Nepantla Conference is aimed at empowering Queer, Trans*, and Gender Non-Conforming folx of the Xicanx/Latinx community from a variety of California college campuses. The conference will take place in UCDavis on May 14th, 2016 from 9am to 4pm.
Nepantla Conference will center on Healing, Empowerment, and Advocacy for the Chicanx/Latinx LGBTQIA+ community in order to provide individuals with the leadership skills to create change in their greater communities and campuses.
Leadership manifests differently for different people, as such, we will hold workshops that prioritize the four directions of the Indigenous Medicine Wheel. The Medicine Wheel is a Native American/Indigenous* spiritual concept that acknowledges that we all have different strengths that are essential to healing and empowering ourselves in order to heal and empower our communities. All directions have profound strengths and potential weaknesses, and every person is seen as capable of growing in each direction.
Space is limited so the sooner you respond the better. Your year and answer to the last question will be taken into consideration. First years and First year transfers will be prioritized. However, if you are a fourth or fifth year, you are encouraged to pass on your wisdom to newer folx in the community by putting on a workshop (this guarantees you a place in the conference).
