1 Peter 3:8-12

Theme: Going beyond non-retaliation

Rather than get wrapped up about how I perceive that we’re being treated, we need to focus on what we’re called to do, because God’s got it covered.

 Discovery Questions

Self-reflection:

Read 1 Peter 3:8-12 (read the whole chapter, preferably). Do you have any situations that fit this description? What feelings do you have about it? Consider that you have been called to bless people on Christ’s behalf and pray about your situation.

With your family:

Discuss ways that your children may feel wronged. Then discuss how in the end, God will always take care of wrongdoings. Then discuss how we might respond based on the fact that God can be trusted this way.

With your small group:

  1. Read 1 Peter 3:8-12 in context.
  2. What stands out to you in these verses? Why?
  3. What bothers you about these verses? Why?
  4. Discuss the self-reflection question above.
  5. Get beyond “proper” Christian ideas and discuss honestly the challenge to bless those who wrong us.
  6. Given this passage, what should you do this week?

Reading the Bible Through as a Church for 2017

Reading Tips:

  1. Start reading the Bible today.  There is no better time to & no reason to wait.
  2. Set aside a specific time each day to read and work to stick to it.
  3. Read the Bible to learn and ask the Holy Spirit to give you wisdom & understanding.

We are reading through the plan created by Dr. George Gutherie. It is entitled Reading God’s Story: One-Year Chronological Plan.
