You Can Help These Cyclists Take on 1500 Miles For Charities

At about 5am my alarm goes off. I eat breakfast, jump on my bike
and meet up with the good folks at Pedal Pushers Online for a
morning ride. These cyclists have been training for several months
now to participate in two VERY long Charity rides. What they need
now are a few sponsors to help the charities they are cycling for.

Even a small sponsorship can go a long way. This is a good group

More "Space" Collectibles
This story about the "spacey-est" Moody Blues cassette is quoted from

The group also received an unusual award from the group's biggest
outer space fan, Robert 'Hoot' Gibson, Chief NASA Astronaut. Taking
audio cassettes of Days of Future Passed and Seventh Sojourn with
him on every one of the space shuttle trips -- the Challenger, the
Endeavor, and the Atlantis -- the Moodies' music has had the singular
distinction of having traveled 10 million miles, and circled 420 times
around the earth. Encased in a special plaque, the cassette of Days
of Future Passed now resides in Los Angeles' Hard Rock Cafe
memorabilia display. A quarter century after they first vowed to stay
true to themselves regardless of the consequences, the Moody Blues
remain one of rock's most vital and unique resources.

After reading the special walk story I thought about my eleven year old
son. He has always accompanied me to antique shops and museums,
at first it was with the hands behind the back walk and as he developed
a knowledge he would quietly ask if I had seen this or that - never
pointing, just telling me which shelf or cabinet to look at. So my son
was quite put out by the comment of a shop keeper recently. He had
seen an item that he wanted to buy for his father's birthday present but
when he entered the store the shop keeper very rudely told him to leave
because "kids don't know how to behave around antiques". I had
followed my son into the store and heard the comment so I was proud
of my son when he spoke quietly to the man and told him that he didn't
have to be rude to customers to drive them away. The man turned to
me (obviously not realizing that I was his mother) and said "kids today
don't know how to behave, if I was his parent I'd teach him a thing or
two" and asked if he could help me. Following my son's example, I
quietly told him that I had just come in to see what my son had intended
to buy his father for his birthday - but since he didn't want to make the
sale there was no point in my staying. The couple who had followed
me in the door also pointedly left at that time, telling the shop owner that
they had also heard his comments and since they had their child with
them, they figured they were not welcome either. We all went further
up the street to another antique shop and my son made a purchase for
his father - the shop keeper treated him as a valued customer. Since
then we have repeatedly visited the second store at my sons request so
he can purchase other items. The first store owner does not realize that
the child with pocket money today is the adult with wages to spend

newsletter.

1. You have a vintage item in hand and you are trying to find relatives of
the original owner(s). This could be an old photo album, baby book, diploma,
Family Bible, or other vintage items that can be linked to a specific person
or family.

2. You are looking for a fairly common vintage item that has deep personal
meaning for you or someone you know. I'm sorry, but we do not post
requests for "one of a kind items" that have been lost or stolen.

Remember to include as many details about the item(s) as you can. For
your story to run in this section, you must include your email address and
allow us to publish it. If this service helps you eventually track down the
relatives or find an item, please tell us about it in a follow-up story.

Getting Closer (Collectors Newsletter #349)
Well, lots of folks have e-mailed to let me know that this award is for a
"special pig". I should have said that I knew that much (being my
husbands a farm boy). I got some great ideas to check out though.
I'll be trying to search the Detroit Papers for 1908 Fair results soon.
Don't suppose anyone knows how to dynamite information our of a
Fair Board though.......

6) NEWS FROM THE KOVELS
EVA ZEISEL'S FAMOUS "TOMORROW'S CLASSIC" DINNERWARE,
designed in 1952 and first manufactured by Hall China Company, has
been reissued for sale by Crate and Barrel. KOVELS ON ANTIQUES
AND COLLECTIBLES newsletter reports that the nationwide chain of
stores is calling the pattern Classic Century and has added a
Zeisel-designed mug to the line. The new earthenware dishes are
manufactured in England from original molds, but they're a different
tone of white.

When our son was of driving age, he and his Grandfather went to look at
a red truck. It was very pretty and had all the bells and whistles on it and
had a very good price. Needless to say our son fell in love with this truck.
Several days went by and the transmission went out and they replaced it.
Then it was the drive shaft and fixed it. Everyone got after him for
hot rodding it.
After 4 transmissions and 2 drive shafts Grandpa took over the truck.
Same thing happens and after 2 transmissions and 4 drive shafts we told
Grandpa to quit hot rodding. The truck sat when we couldn't find anymore
parts.
Several years went by and Grandpa wasn't feeling well and was nervous
about a test he was to have done so his blood pressure was up. Me, I'm
into natural stuff for healing and was explaining to Grandpa how lemons
will bring the blood pressure down. My husband listening to all this, yells
from the other room, "Quick Dad, go suck on the truck!" We all cracked
up.
Grandpa is gone now, but on the lighter side, so is the truck! Robin

While hunting for the several recipes I had of the cherry-tasting white
fudge I found a bunch of them in a mess of other recipes in a single
file -- so here is the file -- maybe some of these with the cherry
flavorings might be what she is seeking./Judy M.

WHITE CHERRY FUDGE
1 1/2 lb. white confectioners
coating chocolate
1 can Eagle Brand sweet
condensed milk
1 c. chopped candied cherries
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
dash of salt
In heavy saucepan over low heat melt white chocolate
with sweetened condensed milk and dash of salt. Remove from
heat. Stir in chopped cherries and vanilla. Pour into greased
pan.

WHITE FUDGE
2 1/4 c. granulated sugar
1/2 c. dairy sour cream
1/4 c. milk
2 Tbsp. butter
1 Tbsp. light corn syrup
1/4 tsp. salt
2 tsp. vanilla
1 c. coarsely chopped walnuts
1/3 c. quartered candied
cherries
In saucepan combine sugar, sour cream, milk, butter,
corn syrup and salt; cook over medium heat to 238 degrees (soft ball),
about 9 to 10 minutes. Remove from heat and let stand 1 hour
or lukewarm, 110 degrees. Add vanilla and beat until it begins to
lose gloss and holds its shape. This requires very little
beating. Quickly stir in nuts and candied cherries. Turn into
oiled 9 x 9-inch pan. Yields 1 1/2 pounds of white fudge.

FIVE POUND WHITE FUDGE
5 c. white sugar
2 sticks margarine
1 can "Pet" cream
Mix together and cook for 10 minutes, stirring constant-
ly. Remove from heat and add the following: 2 (7 ounce) jars
Marshmallow Creme and 1 cup chopped nuts. Place pan in cold
water and beat candy until set.
If you prefer a peanut butter taste, add 2/3 cup peanut
butter along with your Marshmallow Creme and nuts.
(you can add maraschino cherry juice to change the flavor; or orange or
any of the various flavorings -- a drop at a time until it meets your
"taste bud" choice)

PEANUTS WHITE FUDGE
1 lb. white chocolate
1 c. powdered sugar
1 stick butter
1 1/2 c. Rice Krispies
Melt chocolate in double boiler; stirring constantly
until mixture is smooth. Add powdered sugar, butter and Rice
Krispies. Spread mixture into lightly greased 9 x 13-inch pan.
