Paris (pah13) | 1183 comments Lol Dragana. I have that kind of first world problem all the time. I'm horrible at making decisions.

Case in point...I'm gonna read Gunmetal Magic (Kate Daniels World, #1) by Ilona Andrews for my favorite author shelf.

I loved her shifter series, so I thought I'd try out the Soul Screamer series.

Well, Sandra was right. This book was pretty good. Lily Parker finds herself attending a boarding school in Chicago while her parents go on sabbatical in Germany for two years. She quickly becomes aware of who she wants to be friends with and finds out her new BFF, Scout, is more than what she lets on. After accidentally becoming involved in an incident involving Scout's special group, Lily begins to find out she is more like them than she ever could have imagined.

I really like the characters in this book. The "brat pack" are a bit cliche, but the rest of the characters appear to be pretty solid. I will most likely read the next book in the series. My curiosity has been peaked and I wouldn't mind finding out how the series will end.

I was a latecomer to the Kate Daniels series and really to Ilona Andrews books all together, but once I jumped in, I was hooked. When I read that they were going to write a book from Andrea's perspective I was excited. I love Andrea and always wished that we could see more of her, but always figured that wasn't going to happen. Thank goodness I was wrong.

It was great to get into Andrea's past and learn more about her. Her past created her and how she interacts with the people in her life. I loved getting to see her interact with Kate, Raphael and Ascanio and the rest of the Pack. Seeing her investigate the murder of four pack members was great too. She has a slightly different style then Kate, but there is never any doubt why they are friends and co-workers. And I absolutely love her version of intimidation.

I really hope we get to see more from her point of view. And hopefully we'll get more hot scenes between her and Raphael. And more of her intimidation tactics. Hell, I'll just take more of awesome, kick ass Andrea!

Kaylee is an ordinary teenager who happens to see when people are about to die and feels the grief so strong that she wants to scream.
Teenage girls are dying for no reason, just keeling over. It can't just be a coincidence, can it?

I really quite enjoyed the first in this series by Rachel Vincent. It lacked a little depth, nowhere near as involved as the shifter series, but none the less an interesting new world with some likeable characters.
I think the worst thing about it is that it felt a little like it was skimming over the top of the story and we weren't getting deep down into it. Maybe this will get better or maybe as YA writing the author won't get too serious. I'm going to read the next one to see.

I'm jealous. I want a cat so bad, but it's too expensive to have one in my apartment.

I've been working and trying to recover from this cold/perforated eardrum. It's been a rough week and a half, but thankfully I've had a lot of time to read because of it. I've read some pretty great books lately which always makes me happy.

Shelf: Favourite Author
Rating: ★★★★
Finished: 27.09.2012.

In this book we will again have an opportunity to enjoy in descriptions of wonderful world that Martha Wells created.
Indigo Court is moving to a new location and of course there will be a couple of problems that will need to be fixed. But when Stone, Moon, Jade & other Raksura join forces you know that there is HEA lurking in the end. :)

My only complaint is that I felt this book a bit more stagnant than The Cloud Roads, so we do not get to visit as much new places as before. (Yes, I am spoiled by previous book I admit it.)
Also the same can be said for relationship between Moon and Jade. I did not feel any new depth of feeling developing between them, as is normal for a couple.

But if we ignore this, the book was great. As before we have original and interesting world, species, customs... When will you have an opportunity to read a fantasy book where a main hero looks like this?

Moon by Jessica Peffer

I will definitely read the next book when it is published. :)

Sallie(GeorgiaGirl) (shuga) | 1143 comments Im here - sorry ladies, I had knee surgery on the 20th of Aug & I just went back to work on Sept 17th so I have been really swamped at work - so by the time I get home my knee looks like a volleyball so I havent been on the PC very much - keeping the knee up when I get home....2012 has not really been my year at all...
I did finish my fav author book, Wicked Business, janet evanovich...3*s...09.28.2012...first off I would like to say I love JE but this book was really like a Stephanie, Morelli & Ranger book only with different names. The storyline was good but the characters were just ok for me. I will still read the books but I really wasnt overly impressed with this one at all.

Paris (pah13) | 1183 comments Oh Sallie I'm sorry to hear about your knee. That sucks. I hope your knee starts feeling better and that the rest of 2012 is better for you.

I didn't like Diesel in the Stephanie Plum between the numbers books so I've never even tried the new series. Plus I've kinda gotten annoyed that nothing has changed in the Stephanie series after nineteen books. It's frustrating.

I'll update the master list with your review.

MacKayla (Mac) Lane finds herself still hunting for her sister's killer, while Jericho Barrons is still using her to find the Sinsar Dubh and now the women that claim they are family want her to join them. Time and time again, it is Barrons who ends up saving her, but she doesn't know if she can truly trust him or anyone for that matter. Will those two ever get together? Ughhhhhh!

I really liked this book. At times though, it felt like the author went on forever in the details department. I found myself skimming some of the paragraphs. That won't keep me from reading the next in series. In fact, I will probably start the next one just as soon as I finish posting this little review!

Dante Valentine has been given a job to do by Lucifer. It isn't the type of job that's she's allowed to refuse to do, as that would mean death. She's been given a familiar to help with the task and she thinks that she's probably not coming out of this one alive. SO die now or die later, but with a slim chance of survival...looks like she's on the devil's payroll.

The author just throws you into this novel without much back story and you just have to feel your way around. It took a while to get into the characters this way, but ultimately it turned out to be a great ride. Dante has a bit of an inner monologue going on which I really enjoyed, especially as she's not too verbal.
There are some fun secondary characters like the growling neanderthal hedge witch, he's fun and Japh the familiar is a hot demon that we shouldn't really like, but totally want to get to know better.

All in all a little bit of a slow start, but it speeds up rapidly and I'm really looking forward to the next book.

Oh how I love this series. It’s freaking fantastic. The writing is amazing, the characters are awesome and the story had me all over the place emotionally. Rhiannon is such a great heroine. She kicks ass, but she isn’t perfect. I like when even the most hardcore heroines are sometimes dumber than a post and Rhiannon has a couple of moments like that in this book. I wanted to reach into the book and shake the crap out of her because of the decisions she was making. Besides making me angry and happy, this book also broke my heart. Of course I won’t go into details, but I cried and I’m still having a difficult time coming to terms with what happened. But then Rhiannon kicked some ass and took some names and tat made me feel a little bit better.

The end of the book included a letter to her readers from the author that made me angry and sad just like the actual book. She isn’t sure if there will be more in the series because people are stealing the books. I hate, hate, hate when a few people ruin something good for everyone. I just found t his series and I don’t want to lose it, so please, please, please go buy it if you are into kick ass, smart mouth, lovable even though they are messed up heroines and hot as hell vampires.

Dragana (diaryofthebookdragon) | 2441 comments Alice in Zombieland (White Rabbit Chronicles, #1) by Gena Showalter

Shelf: Urban Fantasy
Rating: ★★★★★
Finished: 03.10.2012.

After reading about 10% of this book I was very disappointed. It was obvious that tittle is misleading and that this will not be a retelling of 'Alice in Wonderland'. Annoyed, I renamed the book 'Alice in Melodrama-land' and started planning what to read next - because I knew that I could not read 400 pages of teenager moaning and complaining and that I will give up soon.
But this book managed to surprise me again because by 15% I was hooked. It was an intense, entertaining and quick read. :)

Alice is a young girl with a lot on her plate: tragic loss of her family, moving to live with her grand-parents, changing school. Oh and did I mention that she started seeing zombies that no one else can? The story is told in a first-person point of view from her perspective. She is a good narrator and it's one of the reasons this book was such a quick read. The other reasons are: saucy best friend, bad boy crush, a lot of action and adventure.

Another big plus for this book: there is no cliffhanger in the end. And also (although there are zombies) it was not very much scary or gross. Another big plus, because I am not in a mood for horror books right now.

So in the conclusion: Maybe I did not learn nothing new in this book and there are no great depths but it was fun!

The best way to describe this book is young-adult version of Night Huntress series. So if you like Cat, you are going to like Alice too. Just switch vampires with zombies. :D

I am glad to hear that work is settling down. I am currently not working because we are fixing some things in our flat and someone had to be in here all day to deal with the repairman. But if they finish until Friday, I will start working next week. Yay! I am sick of repairs.

Beautiful Creatures (Caster Chronicles, #1) by Kami Garcia

Book: Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia, Margaret Stohl
Rating: ★★★
Completed: 10.05.12
Review:

Ethan Wate is a high schooler who dreams of escaping his little town named Gatlin, where nothing ever happens. That is, until the day Lena Duchannes moves into town, and everything is about to change.

I'm kind of disappointed. After reading that book, I feel like I just wasted my time. For a book of 563 pages, they could have at least written something original instead of ruining all that paper. All I see is another typical young adult book with all the same problems as in all the others young adult series I've read. That is, in a supernatural context, of course.
