But in good news...we will be getting a new stamp today! (or well when Steph gets to it. lol)

If I'm not home when the shelf is called, I'll try to post it from my phone. Happy Saturday/Sunday everyone!!

It's In His Kiss (Bridgertons #7) by Julia Quinn

Book: It's In His Kiss by Julia Quinn
Rating: ★★★★
Completed: 10.08.12
Review:
This one was a re-read for me, and it was great to discover this book all over again since I did not remember it. As much as I love the Bridgerton series, this one, I felt was not as good as the others. But still, it was fun and it made me laugh out loud quite often.

Here is one of those funny scenes:

(Here Hyacinth Bridgerton is reading "Miss Butterworth and the Mad Barron" to Lady Danbury)

“Miss Butter-worth,” she read with more force than was necessary, “scrambled up the hillside, her fingers digging deeper into the dirt with each step.”

“Can fingers step?” Lady D asked.

“They can in this book.” Hyacinth cleared her throat and continued: “She could hear him behind her. He was closing the distance between them, and soon she would be caught. But for what purpose? Good or evil?”

“Evil, I hope. It’ll keep things interesting.”

“I am in complete agreement,” Hyacinth said. “How would she know?” she read on. “How would she know? HowWOULDshe know?” She looked up. “Emphasis mine.”

“Allowed,” Lady D said graciously.

“And then she recalled the advice given to her by her mother, before the blessed lady had gone to her reward, pecked to death by pigeons—”

“This can’t be real!”

“Of course it can’t. It’s a novel. But I swear to you, it’s right here on page 193.”

“Let me see that!”

Hyacinth’s eyes widened. Lady Danbury frequently accused Hyacinth of embellishment, but this was the first time she had actually demanded verification. She got up and showed the book to the countess, pointing to the paragraph in question.

“Well, I’ll be,” Lady Danbury said. “The poor lady did get done in by pigeons.” She shook her head.

If you did not find that funny, then I must have been really tired while reading that because I just couldn't stop laughing.

Caroline (zombiecazz) | 108 comments The Greyfriar (Vampire Empire, #1) by Clay Griffith

Shelf - Vampires
Finished - 08/10/12
4 stars

Adele, the heir to the Equatorian throne, is sent out as an ambassador to the northern realm. This journey involves going close to the lands of the vampires. These vampire are blood thirsty clans who have no respect for human life. To them we are just cattle. Things do not go well. Adele's ship is attacked by vampires and the princess is forced to flea with the infamous Greyfriar.

The world is very steam punk with steam powered airships and funky clothes. The background is full of hideous vampires who fought a bloody war which ended up with vampires occupying the northern colder regions and human having to move to warmer climate.

This book took a little bit to get into, possibly as I haven't read anything steampunk before and also as there was a lot of world to describe and build during the story. I did begin to love the descriptions and the fact that the story takes us through a ravaged London and a bleak Edinburgh.
I liked Adele from the start and grew to love Greyfriar too. I want to read the next book to see the story develope. Nothing is really resolved in the first book, it does come to a natural break, but we need to know some stuff about Adele that is hinted about, but not explained and things between the two main characters are unfinished
Really well worth reading and quite a bit different from many of the vampire books that I have read before.

Paris (pah13) | 1183 comments Crimson Moon (Crimson Trilogy, #1) by J.A. Saare
Shelf: Vampires
Finished: 10/8/12
Rating: ★★★★

I absolutely love J.A. Saare’s Rhiannon’s Law series and when I saw that the first book in her Crimson Trilogy was $2.99 I figured I’d give it a shot hoping that I’d love it as much as the other series. Crimson Moon is a good book. It’s not as dark as the other series and at times it reads more like a paranormal young adult book than an urban fantasy for adults. It was also Saare’s first book and that is often evident in certain scenes.

For the most part I liked Emma. She is young and naïve, but she also has an underlying strength that is nice and she is sometimes a smarty pants, although nowhere near the level that Rhiannon is. I would love to have my very own Caleb. Except for when he’s being a bonehead, but really what guy isn’t. Also, this is one of those few times where I’m completely not into the love triangle and I hope that it gets quickly resolved in the next book.

I have already bought book 2 in the series and I hope that since it was more recently written, it’ll be a bit better. Then hopefully we won’t have to wait too long for the conclusion to the trilogy. I am not a very patient person. ;-)

Dragana, I had high hopes for this book after reading some of the reviews. Boy, was I terribly mistaken. Suffice it to say, I am having a hard time finishing it. It pretty much...sucks (no pun intended). Maybe it's just me, but I just can't seem to get on board with it. Hopefully, I will be finished with it before the weekend and will be able to give you more details. Ugh!

Dragana (diaryofthebookdragon) | 2441 comments Jenni, sorry to hear that. I also heard a lot of praises about how Bloodsucking Fiends is hilarious etc. I got burned by so-called funny books before, so that's why I was delaying reading it. Good to know I was not mistaken.
I hope you manage to finish this book quick and that the next one is much better. :)

Dragana (diaryofthebookdragon) | 2441 comments At Grave's End (Night Huntress, #3) by Jeaniene Frost

Shelf: Vampires
Rating: ★★★★
Finished: 11.10.2012.

Although I love Cat & Bones, I can not give this book 5 stars. Yes there are all the usual elements you would expect from Night Huntress book: lots of action, tension, romance, unexpected twists... You don't know what will happen until the end.

But did really Cat had to be covered in blood more than half of the book? It really feels like too much. Like every second chapter she is either wounded or chewed to death... and of course then she drinks a little bit of Bone's blood and she is better. But still... it was repetitive and after some time, these events did not create additional tension, but just had me rolling my eyes.

The second thing that bothered me is Cat&Bones kissing/making out with other people. Yes, it is explained every time why they did it. But still... Too much of this too...

If I ignore these two things that bothered me, this was a good book. We get to hang out with old and meet a lot of new interesting characters. Even Vlad who got his own book this year Once Burned. Can't wait to read it!

A Perfect Blood (The Hollows, #10) by Kim Harrison

Book: A Perfect Blood by Kim Harrison
Rating: ★★★★★
Completed: 10.12.12
Review:
I was quite surprised. I never was a big fan of this series, not that I think it's bad, it's just that I was never amazed. But this book, I loved it. I think I loved it more than the others because we finally see things happening between Rachel and Trent. It was like watching Castle, and getting teased by all the little romantic gestures, and wondering as to whether or not they would end up together.

Bloodsucking Fiends
Vampire Shelf
12 October 12

The overall synopsis is a girl (Jody) is turned into a vampire. She meets a guy (C. Tommy Flood) and asks him to live with her and do her daytime errands. Dead bodies that have been drained start to show up around them and they find themselves in search of the vampire that is doing it.

Let me start by saying that this book has to be one of the worst books I have ever read. I had to force myself multiple times to continue reading it. There were a lot of grammatical/spelling errors. Those things can usually be overlooked if the story is good, but in this case it just amplified all of the negatives. The writing was awkward. I don't really know how else to describe it. The intended humor came across as the characters just being stupid. I am amazed that so many people have found this book to be funny.

Sallie(GeorgiaGirl) (shuga) | 1143 comments I finished Lover Reborn (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #10) by J.R. Ward ...j.r. ward, 3*s....
Let me say that I have loved this series but this book just not do it for me...come to think of it the last book in this series didnt do it for me either. I dont know, I just felt like it was too many pages of nonsense drival for lack of a better explanation. Not one of my favorites at any rate

Also, Series Catchup will give us a three in a row and another two in a row on our card. Yay!

I am going to read Reflected in You (Crossfire, #2) by Sylvia Day by Sylvia Day. I am now super glad that my Kindle died last night and I couldn't start this last night like I wanted.

Rating: ★★★★
Completed: 10.14.12
Review:
I liked this book a lot, it's the first time I read a book where the principal male character is one of the Horsemen of the Apocalypse, and it worked well in this book. Of course, like most of the paranormal romance out there, the woman he falls in love with, becomes immortal at the end of the story, so that's no spoiler. As much as I love a HEA, it's seriously beginning to annoy me.

Fun fact: No important characters are vampires in this book but his seventeen most popular shelf are vampires. huh.

Holy intenseballs Batman. This book…it left me breathless. I never thought something could be more intense than the first book in this series, but I was wrong. This book beats Bared to You in leaps and bounds. The relationship is passionate and more than a normal roller coaster ride. Gideon and Eva fight, make-up, misunderstand each other, love each other within an inch of their lives and then fight some more.

I love that we got to learn a little more about Gideon’s past in this book. Slowly, but surely he is breaking down his walls for Eva. Although at times I feel that their all-consuming love is far from reality and most likely a little unhealthy, I still can’t help but get wrapped up in it. The major drama that takes place in this book is so freaking crazy good that I want to spill the beans, but I don’t like to spoil things in my reviews, at least things that aren’t inevitable or predictable (ie: Gideon opening up more).

I honestly have no idea what Day could possibly do to her characters in the next and final book in the Crossfire series. I have a feeling it has a little bit to do with Gideon’s past, but other than that I’m baffled and extremely anxious to get my hands on Entwined With You. I need more Gideon and I need to know what the heck is going on.
