Hi

Being house bound is driving me crazy and its only been a week since I fell ill, Im feeling better today, and at least my appetite has returned, but Im still not allowed to go out by HWKB, my breathing is still really bad I was even out of breath moving my tripod about,

A big thanks to Lisa (Crocky) who loaned me a 50mm macro lens as mines in for repair,

I managed to have a go today at this Sycamore Leaf out of the garden, On Black Plate, theres the odd dust spot and a bit of light bleeding/spillage, but Im fairly happy with it, What do you think? C+C Welcome

I have to agree 100% with what matt has written, Love the colours against the black and love the reflection that it provides. (y)

I think it's a stunner Dave - I'd buy that for my wall. Hope you're feeling better soon

I really like that Dave, I think the use of the black really sets it off and the lighting is wonderful (y)

Cheers Matt :)

Thanks very much Andrew its just a 12" square black plate, that I got a £1 at the pound shop (y)

Great this Dave, was it light painted ??

Ta Matt, no its not light painted, its lit with a rectangle strip desk lamp with a daylight bulb in, its lit, from very low down and slightly to the right just skimming the top edge of the plate :)

Love that Dave!(y)
Glad to hear you are feeling a bit better!:)

Thanks Simon and thanks for asking Im feeling a little better, at least I can breath now :)

The reflections work very well on the black surroundings Dave, very nice work.

Thanks Steve, It was more about the lighting that I was going for because my plate isnt as reflective as I would like any more its oldish and dulled down from what it was, so not sharp in the reflections, I think I need to get some black perspex as the plate to be honest its size is a bit limiting, I only really got it for shots of my Flower Mantis so it was perfect for that

You know Dave if you buy a cheap photo frame, use the perspex from it and place any color card behind it, you can get some lovely reflections then.

Superb shot Dave- the choice of BG really suits this image , as you say a sheet of black perspex would be an asset

You've given an idea for my next indoor project :D

Glad to see you're feeling a little better mate

Thanks very much Les,

we have a sign maker not far from us I'll call in he may have some black or white acrylic off cuts, that would also be good,

Hey dont be nicking my ideas :D only kidding look forward to seeing what you produce pm me when its on TP (y)

Feeling a bit better just been to see my respiratory nurse and she gave me some more steroids and she weighed me Ive lost 5 kilos, oh then she took some blood and gave me a flu vaccination, hate needles

Lovely clean shot Dave and I'm liking the reflection, just goes to show what you can do with a bit of ingenuity

Hope you're feeling much better soon.

Tried getting lower down? Reflections come out far more the further to horizontal you get.

I like very much Dave, well done.

Great shot Dave, especially considering you were only using desk lamp for lighting- Brilliant (y)

Thanks interesting James if I got any lower, I almost flat to the plain of the plate lip as it is, there would be no leaf  just a nice edge of a plate  I think I know what you mean if the leaf was further back, it would look more as I was level to it but, I was limited to the amount of BG plate so the leaf is more forward but I get what your saying, because Im so close it looks like Im looking down, but Im not, I can see had it been further back it would appear to be flatter more level

Ah yeah, fair point. Forgot the sheet was so small that it was sat on. How close was your light source btw? The closer the light source (as long as its diffused and vastly larger than the subject, ie a soft box!), the better the reflection also.

Been doing reflection shots for a few months now so have some tips to share if you need them.

Dave, would also like to add, that I love this shot. Also a thank you for the tips about the Perspex/ picture frame idea. I am learning such a lot from reading this forum. Just need to put it into practice. :)
Hope you are back to full strength very soon.

Thanks James (y) Id say it was approx 24" with a sheet of diffuser draped over it

Thanks Kath thats just on a cheap black plate so a bit limiting perspex or acrylic sheet would be better if you can get some, and is great for rainy days or when those dark night draw in

Thats a beautiful picture Dave! One that anyone would be proud of.
I thought I was going to miss all the autumn colours this year, but you have made up for that!
I would like to use it as a screensaver if I can have your blessing!

(y) gorit!

I'll take the not so subtle hint from my thread!!

What can be said that hasn't already been said?

Lovely, simple, lighting. Great subject with excellent structural shape. Trying desperately to find something constructive to say.... but I can't.

Love it.

Thats such a wonderful image, so simple yet so full of detail and perfectly lit. Nice work sir.

Just made me wonder, my shot inspired your shots, but you dint comment,

Certainly didn't mean to offend Dave. And hope I didn't. There just wasn't anything to say that hadn't already been said (y)
