Femina Faber, CACT, Bellinzona (CH) - 28.07.12
The unusual setting was a room in the Centre of Contemporary Art of Ticino, in the context of a double exhibition featuring contemporary and conceptual art works by Swiss and Italian artists, including some artworks held in collections at the Museum of Contemporary Arts of Ticino.
High end Sound and Vision, made of pulsating electronic arrangements and visionary visual backdrops that completely enveloped the front of the room, largely contributed in turning the small intimate setting into an ideal place to let the mind and heart tune to the lyrical-mechanical paradigm that is FEMINA FABER distinctive feature.
Paola worked her stage presence impeccably too, she mastered the minimal area at her disposal with class, changing scene every so often by adding diverse simple yet effective elements: an armor prop to wear, or a foulard disguising her face to add a touch mystery to her figure, or a mirror to wave against the light-show, or a metal plate to let roll on the floor. The very intimate setting of the performance made all of this possible as the audience and the performer physically shared the same space, there was no stage as such at all!
Her voice resonated beautifully for nine songs, three of which are favourites from her first album Tumultor, while the remaining six feature in her new album Amplexum Mentis. The enchanting show was ended by Fausto with more sonic trickery.
My immediate thought after the live action was "give me something like this once a week and I'll be very fine". And that thought still holds true as far as I am concerned.
