Short or Tall Doesn't Matter at All

Rate this book
Elisabeth is the shortest girl in 5th grade and often the target of bullies. She proves to herself and to her peers that how tall you are doesn’t define who you are.

Physical size can not measure the ferocity and compassion of the heart, spirit and soul. Truly in the measure of a person, short or tall doesn’t matter at all.

I am currently working hard as an author, my 4th career. I owned and operated a convenience store for 10 years and a computer networking company for 25 years. I was a school teacher and counselor in the public schools. I am a proud husband, father and grandfather. I am someone who cares about the people around me, who wants to improve the society we all live in, who hopes on a daily basis to leave the planet a little better than it was the previous day and who is cognizant that the impact I have on the world is minimal. Tilting at windmills is a part of my character as is a deep love for all those who need to be loved. In my own mind I am a complex, multi-layered, unique character in the kaleidoscoping drama of life.

I always enjoy reading William G Bentrim’s stories as they are fun but always teach a valuable lesson. Short or Tall Doesn’t Matter at All is exactly the same. In this one we learn about bullying and how being short isn’t all bad.
The illustrations are spectacular and I loved looking over them before turning each page.
The book itself is really insightful and realistic. It reminded me a little of when I was in primary school and there was a girl who was bigger than everyone else and she used to pick on me for being small. I think that William did a really good job at talking about bullying and size.
Overall, I would definitely recommend this book to those who feel a bit small. The book offers an entirely realistic situation in which to sort things out and it sprinkles in a little bit of humour in the process. Well worth a read!

When I was a kid my last name well let's just say it opened me up to a lot of hassle from kids who found it amusing to mock me because of it. I remember another time I had this lovely hair tie thing. It clipped above a pony tail then you put the pony tail into this lace pouch thing I thought it looked nice. I was like 11 so looking nice and not fat or gross from zits was the priority a boy on the bus however every time I wore my hair that way would tell me I had a doggy bag on my head.

Bullying isn't anything new it's been around since people have existed why because some people find it amusing to be mean. These people who need better things in their lives are sadly in abundance.

Bullying is not just a childhood issue many people who are adults also have nothing better to do that or they are simply mean. It's a sad thing about the human race.

Those parents who try to offer comfort to their child going through these issues including a parent with a bully for a child who I would hope be trying to teach that child to not be the mean monster terrorizing others should check out Short or Tall Doesn't Matter At All.

This book about Elizabeth a little girl who is the shortest child in her class bullied by the tallest girl in her class is a great read for parents to share with kids. This is particularly good for young children those starting to read on their own or who still like when the parents read the book to them.

Elisabeth is the shortest girl in the fifth grade, constantly insulted by the tallest, Dominique the Dominatrix. On a day trip to Kid's Citadel, she rescues her tormentor, stuck in a megaphone tube. "I'm just not cut out to be a mean person" p11. The bully apologizes, renames herself "Nikki" and concedes "Dynamite comes in small packages".

Illustrations add to light amusing people, scenery, even a hair-bow bobbing above a row of bus seats. Optimistic outlook - nice wins against nasty. Bentrim softens and sweetens a terrifying suicidal issue into palatable snack.

The only girl shorter than me, who also had glasses, was a medically certified dwarf - until I grew taller than classmates two years older. But the biggest bully around was a parent, mother who targets helpless pets when children grow up. People can change - but so far I've seen more for worse than better. Fiction is a fine world.

Yet another treasure of a tale from William G Bentrim, but I'm not surprised. Once again the story grabs the reader by the hand (young or old by the way) and takes them on an enlightening journey. Elisabeth is very small and her bully is very tall. It makes no difference that good stuff comes in little bundles or does it? Read it and see! Wise words combined and used to weave a story that will reach out and touch each and every child and their parents. Victim of bullying or the one doing the despicable act will be profoundly touched by the end of the reflection. A big robust five stars from me!

“Short or Tall Doesn't Matter At All,” by William G. Bentrim, is a wonderful story about a fifth-grade girl who deals with bullying because she’s much shorter than her classmates. Elisabeth’s main nemesis is Dominique the Dominator. She picks on Elisabeth on the school bus and at school. She’s unrelenting. We’ve all been victims of bullies or maybe have bullied others. Our children need to learn the dangers of bullying and need to know how to get help if they find they are a victim. This is a great little story showing how the victim comes to the aid of the one who bullies her. And the end result is perfect! Read it to your children. Thanks, Mr. Bentrim, for another job well done!

This book actually made me feel claustrophobic

Mr. Bentrim's writing put me right into the action. I actually got claustrophobic reading this story. A great read, showing kids how to process the lessons they learn at home and school, and not to react to peer pressure. As well, like all good stories, it's a story of redemption. I like that the bully grows. She doesn't just get her comeuppance.

There are many kids out there who dread going to school due to bullying. Bullying is not always a pummeling of a child, it is often verbal which may result in longer term damage than a physical beating. Elisabeth is based on a real live, young lady who expressed to me her frustration with her peers and their preoccupation with her stature. In so many aspects this child is superior. She is loving, friendly, beautiful, bright and immensely sociable. For her self image to be negatively impacted by her stature is thoroughly dismaying.

I wrote this story for her and both she and her Mom told me that it made her feel better about herself. That feedback encouraged me to publish this story in an effort to help other kids feel better about themselves.
