About Washington Week

Washington Week with The Atlantic is known for its depth, balance and civil discourse. The program features a roundtable of journalists from print, broadcast and online news organizations who provide analysis of the week’s major national news stories and their impact on the lives of Americans.

About Washington Week with The Atlantic

In August 2023, The Atlantic joined PBS NewsHour and WETA as an editorial partner for the program, which was rebranded as Washington Week with The Atlantic. Jeffrey Goldberg, editor in chief of the Atlantic, serves as the moderator. The show offers objective political reporting and incisive analysis of the nation’s most critical stories, with a panel of today’s top journalists from print, broadcast and online news organizations.

For over 50 years, dating back to the premiere broadcast on February 23, 1967, Washington Week has delivered the most interesting, informative and reporter-driven conversation of the week. It is the longest-running primetime news and analysis program on television and was recognized for its journalism excellence with a 2008 Peabody Award, among other honors.

Goldberg is the tenth moderator in Washington Week’s 56-year history following NBC News and MSNBC Washington correspondent Yamiche Alcindor, CBS News chief election and campaign correspondent Robert Costa, the late PBS NewsHour co-anchor and managing editor Gwen Ifill, as well as John Davenport, public affairs director for WETA and the show’s inaugural moderator; Lincoln Furber, former CBS newscaster; Max Kampelman, prominent Washington, D.C. attorney; Robert MacNeil, the then future co-anchor of The MacNeil/Lehrer NewsHour; Paul Duke, veteran NBC journalist; and Ken Bode, former NBC and CNN correspondent.

Washington Week is produced by NewsHour Productions, which also produces PBS NewsHour and PBS News Weekend.
