- Reviewed in the United States on July 25, 2011I am going to assume that if you are reading these reviews than like me you are comparing everything to the Zagg/Logitech case. I was able to get a good feel of the Zagg from a co-worker. The keyboard was good, size nice, not too heavy, and it was pretty easy in and out of the case. BUT there were two major concerns! First, and most importantly, I knew I would be using the case in bed while I was leaned back and resting it on my lap. This produces a forward lean which would cause the tablet to fall forward in the zagg. Second, the back of my co-workers ipad was scratched because it was exposed in the case. So these two concerns sent me to Amazon looking for an alternative.
After looking at other cases I found that the NewTrent was the only real alternative. Feel free to do the research but the others are just leather cases bundled with removable keyboards. So I ordered it on the pre-order. It shipped two days early. After receiving it I can not say enough good about it. The pictures here and on their own website don't do it justice. The top part that holds the phone is like those clip-on hard cases for phones, tablets, etc. NOTE: It's a snug fit so with my carbon fiber skin on the back of the ipad its a little hard to clip in, but it still works. Once clipped in you can easily swivel between portrait and landscape. Then comes the best part. The keyboard is on a slider that reveals three sets of grooves as you slide it out. Each groove creates a different angle. Everything is solid.
The keyboard is well built and easy to use. If you have used a netbook, you can adjust easily. Coming from a full keyboard will be harder but it gets easier as you use it. It also comes with a silicone cover protector which I thought would never stay on while typing because it's a flat piece and isn't contoured to the keys. Boy was I wrong, It works amazingly well. The ipad keys and functions all work well. It connected easily and stays connected fine. I have only had it 2 days so I can't yet say how long the battery will last but based on the general quality, I'm not worried.
Another great feature is the laptop style lock/latch when you close it. A slide button releases it to open again. Great solid design. Closing it also shuts the screen off like the ipad covers or the zagg.
There is a storage place for the charging cable so you don't have to find a way to carry it around.
One thing that concerned me was whether I could still use the ipad as a tablet while in the case for games and stuff. I was hoping the case would allow the ipad side to flip over and lay flat. This is not the case (maybe a future feature for them to consider). But even though it doesn't fold flat, you can slide the keyboard in and face the ipad up at about a 40 degree angle. Not bad really, I can play most game easily like that.
I have found that it's a little tough to take the ipad in and out but again that could be because of my carbon fiber backing making it thicker.
Finally, I was concerned that in the picture the way New Trent is imprinted would look cheap. But it's not too bad. I do recommend the company come up with a clever logo instead.
As a final thought, this product is HALF the cost of the ZAGG and about double the functionality. Therefore I consider it 4x the value. I can not recommend it enough. It really is a GREAT, HIGH QUALITY product that is FAIRLY PRICED.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 1, 2011I recently tried the Poetic case with keyboard and did not like the smell and I had problems trying to connect the bluetooth. I decided to try the Trent Airbender and am glad I did. I wasn't sure I would like the hard plastic case, but it isn't bad and it weighs less than my previous leather case. I love that the charger cable is in a little compartment within the case. It doesn't come with an electrical plug but is supposed to charge through the computer. It didn't charge through my iPad since I don't have a USB port so I charged it with my laptop. It can also charge by commecting it to the electrical plug for the iPad. I followed the directions and charged the keyboard for over 6 hours and then turned on the keyboard, turned on the connection button and then turned on bluetooth on my iPad. I didn't realize at first that when it said "not connected", I needed to click on the iPad to then get it to display the number code I needed to put in to get the two connected. I finally realized that and it worked great.
I like how easy it is to release the iPad from the case so I can take video and pictures without the added bulk. The keyboard is small and is taking a little getting used to, but it is so much faster than the onscreen keyboard. This keyboard has a shift key on each side which is very useful. It was very easy to switch the iPad from the vertical to the horizontal position. I found that I had to push it a little for the lock to engage, but it wasn't hard. I haven't seen any problems with the iPad waking up when the cover is closed. All in all, I am very happy I returned the Poetic keyboard case and got this one.
9-21-11 I have been using this case with my iPad in Italy for the last 3 weeks. I still really like it. My only problem is that I sometimes hit the lock button instead of the back button which turns off my computer. I can hit the lock button again to turn it on and it goes back to where I was but it is inconvenient. I almost wish ithat key wasn't there. Otherwise, I am very happy with this case. It has gotten easier to type on the small keyboard and it feels very secure when I'm carrying around looking for free wifi places. Even the person at the Vadafone store thought it was pretty cool. I have only had to charge the keyboard once since I've been here.

5.0 out of 5 stars I am impressed
I have only had the chance to use the product for 2 days since that's how
long i've had it for.
Pros: It gives your ipad the feel of a laptop with so many more
transformations and it doesn't restrict the use of the ipad as a tablet due
to the simplicity of disconnecting your ipad from the case. I was also
impressed on how solid the whole thing feels. For example the rotating
screen disc seems pretty well made and it feels that no matter how many
times you turn the damn thing back and forth (even though probably not
recommended, and i haven't really pushed it to it's limits) it won't wear
or break. Regarding the bluetooth keyboard, i found that it was very easy,
simple and straight forward to connect it to my ipad2. It's a nice keyboard
which also feels good to type on even though it does need some getting used
to.
Cons: The main disadvantage i have found is that once, my ipad2 came out of
the casing. But even though it doesn't seem like it would be a usual
occurrence i can't say for sure until i have used the product for a few
more days. Regarding the keyboard, for such soft keys i think that
sometimes they need more than the sensible force to work. Like the space
key for example. I might write a few words before looking at the screen and
when i look they are all connected to each other. Another disadvantage is
that there are no keys assigned to allow you to fully function the ipad
from the keyboard like fliping through application pages and selecting an
application. The last disadvantage, which probably just needs some getting
used to, is that the right 'shift' is located too close to the 'page up'
key and if you miss it you end up typing in the line above. but as i said
it probably just needs some getting used to.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good product but maybe not for the hamfisted
I bought this for my iPad 3 when a previous cheaper product kept losing the bluetooth connection, forcing me to go into settings every time. This one works fine: if the connection does drop, it remakes it more or less instantly.
I like the 'proper' hard keys and the fact that you can use it in portrait, as well as landscape, without the unit toppling over.
Removing the iPad from the unit can be tricky however, especially for the hamfisted. The ratchet mechanism which allows you to tilt the iPad once fitted is also rather awkward; I have found it best to leave it in my preferred setting after use, rather than remove it from the keyboard. It would probably be better if the ratchet was not removable.
However, all-in-all I am very happy with this product.

1.0 out of 5 stars Lasted 3 days.
I charged this twice. The second time it simply would not turn on. It worked a total of three days before I had to return it. A shame in some ways as the design is actually pretty good and it fits well.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as I expected
Couldn't decide on which type of case to get for a new iPad 3 and finally went for this "all-in-one" option. Case arrived pretty promptly, around 3 days, even though I'd selected the free 5 day option.
As soon as I open the packaging I knew this was not the case for me. I hadn't realized how "flimsy" the whole thing would feel. The plastic back shell was extremely rigid and just felt cheap. I also had problems with the hing-bracket on the detachable stand, it just kept collapsing under the weight of the iPad. Meant you could only angle the iPad when it was resting on the base section (just behind the keyboard). If you detached the stand and tried to angle the iPad to view it (as the sales blurb suggested) then the iPad would just fully rotate forwards (because the bracket wasn't strong enough) and the stand would fall over.
On the positive side the Bluetooth keyboard did work just fine and made typing a lot quicker than using the standard screen entry method.
After a short (10 mins) investigation period I'd decided the case was no good and had to be returned. Amazon were great with the returns process (+1 to them) which left me happy that Amazon purchases can be returned when they don't come up to scratch.
This case may work for you (especially if you want the Bluetooth/detachable keyboard feature) but it just didn't have the build quality/functionality I was after.
Hope this review helps...

3.0 out of 5 stars NewTrent spacebar didnt work
I didnt spend too much time using the keyboard case - the space bar wouldnt work straight out of the box.
Otherwise I thought the device was not too bad. The IPAD3 fit the case beautifully and I loved being able to rotate the IPAD screen in both portrait and landscape.
I think typing on the keys would take some getting used to. I already have a separate Apple wireless keyboard which is very good to type on. Unfortunately the NewTrent seemed rather cramped and the magnets on the bottom of the keyboard (to turn off device when you close the cover) subtlely impeded with hitting the space bar.
