Solution 4, The Final Solution!!! Thanks greatly to Bernhard001...
(for Ubuntu Intrepid 8.10, Hardy 8.04 and Gutsy 7.10, check out the forum link below)
Assuming booting from a fresh Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty Hard disk install
--Step 1.
Wait for Update Manager checking patch updates (10 minutes)
Note: you don't have to install any updates, but you do have to wait for Update Manager to show up, otherwise, when you click on the file install_flash_player_10_linux.deb (see below), it will say missing dependency libcurl3 ...
--Step 2.
for youtube viewing: download the file install_flash_player_10_linux.deb from
http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
click on the .deb file, it should download all other dependencies and install itself.
you can check if installation is successful by typing in Firefox url field "about:plugins", and see...
Shockwave Flash
File name: libflashplayer.so
Shockwave Flash 10.0 r22
MIME Type Description Suffixes Enabled
application/x-shockwave-flash Shockwave Flash swf Yes
application/futuresplash FutureSplash Player spl Yes
and some other default settings ...
Firefox->Edit-> Preferences-> Applications->
Shockwave Flash file(application/futuresplash): Use Shockwave Flash (in Firefox)
Shockwave Flash file(application/x-shockwave-flash): Use Shockwave Flash (in Firefox)
Note: the other method [unzip install_flash_player_10_linux.tar.gz, in terminal, run the file "flashplayer-installer" ] is not recommended, due to extreme difficulty for uninstalling flash player after that method.
You only need one method. If you use both methods, you will end up that Youtube not automatically plays videos, but you have to click on the ...xyz.swf link everytime!

Now you can use Firefox addon "DownloadHelper" to download flv files or just copy them from the folder /tmp
[at upper left corner: Places-> Home Folder-> Up button-> Up button-> tmp]
I now can see flv video thumbnails in folders[in Nautilus, the file manager]
I now can play all flash flv files with Totem Movie Player 2.26.1, good audio and video synchronization, but VLC 0.9.9a has video jittering problem[quick jumpy movements]...
tested on same flv file from
