REBELLION OF THE BODY. Understanding musicians' Focal Dystonia Kindle Edition

4.1 4.1 out of 5 stars 26 ratings

"We tend to liken the skills learning process to building a stone tower where each floor is supported by the one below.

In reality, the process is more like building a house of cards where adding one more floor can cause the whole structure to collapse"

How do we learn how to move?

Is it possible to forget the skills we have acquired?

How can they be recovered?

Can certain imagination exercises cure a neurological illness?

Can we break through the invisible barriers which immobilise us through the art of remembering?

This book gathers together some thoughts which emerged during the process of reeducating musicians suffering from a movement disorder known as focal dystonia.

2.0 out of 5 stars I think i'm missing the point

I didn't really find this book very helpful at all. Its basically just a collection of very short paragraphs about people that have dystonia (as i do).
like "john was a great boxer, but could no longer punch, then he had a massive bowel movement, now he's heavyweight champ". Very little medical information or specifics on the disease.
Certainly no information on how to overcome the disease. disappointed.
