Two men who participated in an Occupy Boston march Tuesday night were arrested after climbing on structures in Dewey Square, police said. Boston police Captain Thomas Lee said the suspects, whom he did not identify, were among about 50 protesters who began marching in the downtown area at about 9 p.m. Lee said about 20 people marched to a lawn in Dewey Square, where the suspects were arrested at about 11 p.m. It was not clear Tuesday night what they would be charged with. Ariel Oshinsky, an Occupy Boston media volunteer, said the march was a gesture of solidarity with female Occupy protesters whom the group says were victims of police brutality Saturday in New York.
Sorority is focus of hazing investigation
A Boston University sorority has been suspended pending an investigation into an alleged hazing incident involving alcohol that occurred off campus, a university spokesman said Tuesday. The incident involving Sigma Delta Tau occurred shortly before spring break began last week, said BU spokesman Colin Riley. He said the university is taking the matter seriously and has notified the sorority’s national chapter. Riley released few details about the incident, except to say that underage drinking allegedly occurred. The sorority is barred from holding any events while the investigation is pending, Riley said. Neither the sorority nor its national chapter based in Indiana could be reached for comment late Tuesday night.
Appeals court upholds lawyer’s sentence

The Massachusetts Appeals Court upheld Tuesday a ruling by a judge who found a Boston lawyer in contempt of court after the lawyer shouted at him during jury selection in a murder trial. Barry Wilson’s outburst came after Suffolk Superior Court Judge Patrick Brady allowed a man who had worked in law enforcement to serve on the jury in the trial of one of Wilson’s clients. Wilson shouted his objections at the judge, including calling the judge and his ruling “ridiculous.’’ After the trial, the judge sentenced Wilson to serve three months in jail for contempt. The Appeals Court ruled Tuesday that Wilson’s tirade was “an intentional attempt to goad the judge’’ into dismissing the juror or declaring a mistrial, calling that “unprofessional conduct that required summary punishment.’’ Neither Wilson nor his lawyer, E. Peter Parker, returned calls seeking comment Tuesday. (AP)

Firefighters assist at birth of twins
A Gloucester woman gave birth to twins on Route 128 Tuesday afternoon while she was being taken by ambulance to Beverly Hospital, fire officials said. The woman had been picked up by the Gloucester Fire Department’s rescue squad after she called to report having contractions, said Captain Barry Aptt. Soon after the ambulance got on the highway the woman gave birth to the first child. Rescue squad members called for backup, and the other twin was delivered with the help of crew from the second fire truck. “I heard that they are doing all right, a boy and a girl, one of each,’’ Aptt said. The Gloucester Fire Department identified the woman as Amanda Knowles.

Van driver is charged with assault
A New Bedford man charged with sexually assaulting a disabled 82-year-old woman pleaded not guilty to several charges in New Bedford District Court Tuesday, a spokesman for the Bristol district attorney’s office said. Gregg Miliote said John Costa, 26, of New Bedford, a Capeway van driver, faces charges including indecent assault and battery on a person with intellectual disabilities and rape. The charges stem from incidents that occurred Feb. 14 in New Bedford and March 1 in Dartmouth with the same elderly woman, who was a passenger in Costa’s van, Miliote said.

Police still seek identity of dead man
New Hampshire investigators say they believe the body found in Atkinson Monday may be that of a man missing in that area. Police say they have yet to confirm the identification of the dead man or pinpoint a cause of death. An autopsy is pending. (AP)
