I picked a good winter to do this . It's supost to be a bitterly cold winter according to the weatherman I'll have to thank him But all I can say is Bring it on

Driver for the suport truck
I would like to say welcome to Kim Tintinalli
Kim is going to be my life saver by driving my truck and following close behind me Helping with up dates A little about Kim
Kim has a number of reasons as we all do for doing this.
Her Mom was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes about 2 years ago and she and her daughters are also at high risk Most of all she is doing this in memory of Terry Tintinalli Who passed away Nov 10th 2007 just one month after his 44th birthday from diabetes complications 44 His life was just begining
Kim wonders why life saving supplies and medications cost so much and why there is a lack of education when it comes to diabetes.
Its important to educate myself my children and everyone else that will listen Kim says One thing I know for sure is I have a voice...I know how to use it...I will be a very loud voice for this cause...as I am very passionate about what I believe in especially if it can make a difference in the lives of others
So while on this ride I will be thinking about
Terry Tintinalli and honouring the memory of a warm and loving man who left us way too soon
My Mom...Sharron Tintinalli
My friend Pater DeKelver
My friend Duncan McMillan
and 12 year old Taylor Carlson
Thanks Kim
By the way lucky for me Kim was a LPN at the Lake of the Woods district Hospital in Kenora Ontario only 65 miles from where I live
Now I have to say most of us in this group have been touched in one way or another by diabetes So its really important that we tell everybody we know and strangers too about this Silent Killer call Diabetes
I cant confirm it but from the facts that I have found on the web world wide Diabetes is now the Number 1 killer
Now I have to go and buy some more long johns to keep me warm Mike

My name is Mike Cole
I am in the  planning stages of Giving Diabetes a voice.  I am forty six years of age. I became a "Type One" diabetic at the age of 8 going on 9. I have lived the ups and downs that come with being a diabetic. Living  with diabetes for 38 years I have almost lost the fight a few times . I'm tired of fighting as so many others are . Together we can educate all those who we love and care  of diabetes. Perhaps more stucturing, resources and awareness could be available to diabetics and the public if we could possibly get more involvment of government funding.  Many diabetics and public are not aware and  dont know how bad and the  side effects can be or what to expect. So I'm going to ride to each major city of each province which were named herein to raise the voice and ask for support for funding  of the research and resource centers for educating diabetes.   Each center I come into contact with during my ride I wil lbe giving diabetes a voice.

On Jan 1st 2009 . Please note the date. This has never been done before. I will start A cross county ride on my Harley Davidson 95 Softail, Commencing in  St. Johns Newfoundland and will be completed in Victoria BC. This isn't just for Canadians, It's for diabetics around the world.  Its a huge risk but for me its worth taking .            This ride will be over 7000 kms  (4500 miles ) I'm looking at windchills plummeting well below 60 celcuis enduring  ice, winds and snow covered roads.  I hope complete the run within 3 weeks a lot will depend on the weather .I,ll be starting in St Johns NFLD onto Halifax , Charletown, Fredericton, Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto,Sudbury, Sault Ste Marie, Thunder Bay, Winnipeg, Regina, Calgary, Edmonton, Kamloops, Vancouver and last but not least Victoria . I'm working on a time table and this is only the temporary layout for the route . I am really looking forward to this ride and wish to thank all that have joined the Group. Remember to invite your friends .

Diabetes kills more people every year then Breast Cancer and Aids  combined 4 times over.
1 out of 3  children born after the year 2000  will become a Diabetic. In 2006 3,153,600 people died from Diabetes 6,307,200 became a Diabetic in the same year.  In 2007 there was 253 million Diabetics.( New update ). By the year 2025 there will be 800,000,000 cases of Diabetes and IGT world wide if this doesnt scare you it should . Everyday this number grows check your resources on line through Diabetes websites and watch the statistics.
My perception about the ads you see on TV about blood meters . Blood meters only tell you what your blood sugar is, they dont prevent low and high  life threating sugars. In Canada blood meters are free but you have to buy the test strips about $100.00 per 100 . Most people can not buy insurance to cover the costs . My point is dont let the ads make you think that a blood meter is all you need to control your Diabetes.  If you are a Diabetic, you do need  a meter and test every day.  Although your diabetes  could be under good control you still will be at risk . I have been working hard with different agencies and hope to have some news to tell you soon. Again, I would like to thank you for joining in support and would  like to ask you tell evey one about the group and why it is important for so many . Please do take the time to view the sites  and videos which are posted here.  You will truly find them all informative. " My goal is a world voice for Diabetes."Mike
