WordPress 2.3.2 Upgrade Changed Files
TheSpotter on December 31st, 2007WordPress 2.3.2 released and this time around it addresses several security issues as well as bug fixes. You can read more complete details on what has changed with this release here but this is not what this post is about…
Once again I want to provide a complete set of changed files and detailed info on proper upgrade…
Please be aware that while I have tested the files provided here not all my blogs been upgraded to this version yet and if you decide to use it - you are on your own. My compilation is provided based on official information released by development team that outlines all changed fies here.
If you are not 100% sure, please use official release and upgrade guide and if you are ready to dive in - here you go:
- Make a backup of the database
- Get the WordPress 2.3.2 Changed Files bundle here (note: this includes ONLY changed files from 2.3.1 to 2.3.2)
- Unzip archive provided above to your local drive
- Upload changed files overwriting old files.
- Run upgrade
http://example.com/wordpress/wp-admin/upgrade.php - Enjoy
Process is simple and I didn’t have any issues using it on couple of my blogs but am still in process of doing it to my other blogs including this one.

if you only upload the changed files, that doesn’t include the upgrade.php file, correct?

Chris,
It hasn’t changed according to the developers. This update is code change only - I didn’t have to update database, so running update.php is just a precaution.

Hi Alex,
Thanks for this great information! I saw the upgrade come through a few days ago and the upgrade instructions were involved and tedious. This was so much easier, I’ve updated all of my blogs in much less time.

Sometimes, like this time - incremental upgrade is the best way to go … considering that this change doesn’t require DB update and only code fixes - no need to go through the hustle ….

I went ahead and updated…when I put in wp-admin/upgrade.php the message that returns is: No Upgrade Required Your WordPress database is already up-to-date!
But when I log-in to my admin panel…it still says: A new version of WordPress is available! Please update now.
What could I have done wrong? Downloaded the file, extracted in the file manager and then pulled up the wp-admin/upgrade.php.

Never mind…I figured it out…I was trying to use the file manager and it obviously doesn’t overwrite the existing files that were upgraded. As soon as I FTP’ed the new files, the admin panel accepted the update and that nag “Please update now” went away.
As I always say…Correct and Continue…
